1 | # Hold The Horde — Station Room And Module Inventory |
| 2 | ||||||||
3 | ## A room, seen from its doorway |
| 4 | ||||||||
| 5 | The astronaut stops at a threshold with a reason to be there: a part sitting in a cradle, a record on a wall, a machine that has to be opened, a door that leads further in. Before stepping through, they can read the room. They see the thing they came for, the hatch, grille or ward door the crowd will come through, the pillar or rail that breaks a firing line, the control that shuts the opening, and the way back out. Nothing comes from nowhere. If bodies arrive, they arrive through an opening the player could have looked at first. |
| 6 | ||||||||
7 | That look is where anticipation lives. A closed hatch with dust sifting through its grating promises what is about to happen. The build answers it. A rig that eats dense lines wants the lane where the crowd funnels. A rig built to shove wants the plate or rail the crowd can be pushed onto. A rig back at its starting strength wants the pillar, the long way round and the closure within reach. The crowd is the spectacle: a stream down a narrow bay, a river through a junction, dozens off a gantry stair, hundreds across a great gallery. Mostly the astronaut is on the move, cutting through the horde and breaking it with a build that grows over the outing; some rooms add noisy work that draws the crowd while their hands are busy. The room's shape is what lets them change tactics mid-fight: fall back to a choke, swing onto a flank, shut a mouth or make for the far door. |
8 | |||||||
| 9 | Breathing space is earned in the room's own geometry. The player can clear what came through, slip past it into a part of the room shown to be quiet, or throw a closure that cuts the source off. Shutting a grille stops more from coming; it does not remove what is already inside. Relief is the moment the floor goes still and the work position, the record or the door onward is simply there to use. Curiosity pulls them on: the record that did not quite fit, the far door, the room remembered from another expedition. |
| 10 | ||||||||
11 | Coming home ends temporary strength. Each new expedition brings fresh crowds and regular combat growth while permanent openings, seals and room connections remain changed. A familiar route can offer a new climb, but its renewed sources and approaches must fit the work the player already completed. |
12 | |||||||
13 | **How this could fail.** Crowd space and discovery space compete. If every evidence room grows a broad receiving floor, rooms start to look alike, records end up inside arenas, and the station loses the specific places the player is meant to remember. If only the great galleries carry crowds, ordinary travel loses its horde. The geometry below reserves space and names the layout work still required. How crowds behave is owned by [Combat Rules](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Combat%20Rules), temporary equipment changes by [Build Rules](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Build%20Rules), and each fight's sources and stages by [Encounter And Mechanism Placement Inventory](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Encounter%20And%20Mechanism%20Placement%20Inventory). |

14 | |||||||
| 15 | ## What this inventory covers |
| 16 | ||||||||
17 | This inventory proposes **24 reusable module definitions** and **40 placed playable station rooms** across four regions, sized to the SMALL content band. Owner decisions are recorded in the [Brief](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Brief). It cross-links the current [Regional Discovery Map](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Regional%20Discovery%20Map), [Equipment Acquisition And Rig Growth](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Equipment%20Acquisition%20And%20Rig%20Growth), [Combat And Enemy Roster](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Combat%20And%20Enemy%20Roster), [Two Language Discovery Map](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Two%20Language%20Discovery%20Map), [Story And Ending Map](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Story%20And%20Ending%20Map) and [Cast And Short Rescue Map](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Cast%20And%20Short%20Rescue%20Map) without replacing their behavior rules. |
18 | |||||||
| 19 | ## Counting, identity and shifting boundary |
| 20 | ||||||||
21 | A **module** is a reusable internal spatial grammar: where entrances, cover, work position, fixture and recovery line relate. A **placed room** is one threshold-delimited navigable station space with a stable identity, actual content and at least one distinct action, pressure relationship or evidence consequence. A repeated module is not a repeated room history: R01–R40 retain their own work, object and evidence state through shifts even if their external neighbours or orientation change. |
22 | |||||||
23 | A wall panel, evidence drawer, reply face, manual bypass, fixture alcove or glass observation cell inside a room is not a free room. A vestibule counts only when it is separately traversable, threshold-delimited and owns a distinct refuge, recovery or route action. A mechanism may span faces in two rooms; each face belongs to its room, while the mechanism has one placed identity. The ship airlock interior, berth, home deck, packing bench, receiver, ledger table, material tray and gait rail are **ship spaces and fixtures, not playable station rooms**. Objective 10 occurs aboard and therefore adds no station room. |
24 | |||||||
25 | For every room, stable facts are its identity, module, fixtures, completed local checkpoints, installed/dropped objects, committed captures and selected joins. Current facts are unbound neighbours, orientation, transient power, live population (renewed for each new expedition while permanent changes remain) and unobserved accessibility. A death returns carried property, advances one arrangement, preserves the stable facts and makes prior route/adjacency records historical. **What moves is a rigid unit:** each compact assembly and each latched group holds one internal pose, and an unanchored group may translate and rotate only as a whole, never reflect or stretch its interior. The **ship-rooted group containing R01 is anchored** and neither moves nor turns, so a shift changes which unbound group meets the ship-rooted group's free outer frontier — never which room touches the airlock. Loading, a journal visit or a survivor statement does not shift, complete, locate or connect anything. Loading preserves the ongoing expedition and does not renew its population or growth. All capture and work actions happen while the game runs; the journal pauses everything. |
26 | |||||||
27 | Two cross-room systems have explicit compact boundaries. **R02 Cargo Turn and R03 Collar Control are one two-room collar-service assembly:** their walkable throat and hard control conduit move together, while the assembly's external faces may change; this preserves the opening board/rack relationship without making either room free. **R36–R40 are one five-room core-boundary assembly:** iris, two clamp rooms, evidence cell and isolation hall keep their internal passages and control lines. This is a placement rule: it changes no interior geometry and does not make any optional exterior approach fixed. R35 is only a current exterior approach; if it is not adjacent and reachable, objective 11 waits. Joining either compact assembly to the ship-rooted network counts all its rooms only after every interior room is actually reachable. |
28 | |||||||
29 | Other cross-room relationships depend on current adjacency. R05 contains the whole gait/belt comparison; R06 is only an approach/abort room. R07 contains its own coupler release and is available with R05 only when their current service throats are visibly adjacent — Stride testing can finish while coupler recovery waits. R28 contains all indispensable regulator racks, plates, panel and viewing positions; R29's plate staging and R30's alternate observation angle are optional current adjacencies. If either is absent, the gallery still works and that extra room's distinct revisit waits. No control signal silently crosses between independently shifting rooms. |
30 | |||||||
31 | Every R01–R40 has at least one visible service-threshold face that is physically eligible for the persistent-latch system. **A**, **B** and **R** below are visible service-signature families (amber-single, blue-double and red-triple); they are not language tokens. `X` means the room has a separately observed transformation between named faces. |
32 | |||||||
33 | ## Crowds, sources and quiet |
| 34 | ||||||||
35 | These terms place the [Encounter And Mechanism Placement Inventory](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Encounter%20And%20Mechanism%20Placement%20Inventory)'s crowds in physical rooms; scale figures are that page's. "Widened" below reserves space. |
36 | |||||||
37 | - **Source volume.** A backing space that physically holds bodies: a ward wing, duct, loft or store. It is geometry owned by its host, not a room: the astronaut never enters it and it carries no action. If later layout makes one enterable with its own action, it counts as a room under the rule above and the room count rises. |
38 | - **Feeding aperture.** The grille, hatch, ward door, mouth or shutter a source releases through, visible before anything arrives. It is never one of the room's walking passages, and closing it never closes a walking passage, clamp path, record continuation or rescue route. |
| 39 | - **Receiving space.** Floor where arrivals land and turn, beside the work or evidence position rather than over it. |
| 40 | - **Closure control.** Reachable from the side the astronaut fights on and visible from the entry. A completed closure persists unless its owning mechanism says otherwise; a held one lasts only while held. |
41 | - **Closing early or late.** Closing a source's access before its release commits prevents that release and gives lasting safety and access. The closure preview counts that source's actual unpaid marks in still-uncommitted bands, rather than promising a fixed loss for every seal. Earned marks, queued Tunes and partial progress remain until home; sealing is not itself a growth award. Combat Rules owns the detailed growth and milestone rules. A physical seal completed after commitment resolves the stage at once, without waiting for the peak. Either way, bodies already through still need clearing or separation. P01's held shutter and P03's dogged-open shutter follow their own rows. |
42 | - **Quiet.** A closure stops further arrivals but leaves bodies already inside. A space is quiet only when those are also cleared, bypassed into a shown quiet state or physically separated. A rescue starts only on a walked, prepared short route that is quiet or separated in this sense; it needs neither killing everything nor both clearing and closing, and never becomes an escort. |
43 | - **Reuse.** A module shape carries no population. Only the hosts in the first table below carry sources. Another room may receive a conserved group only through an explicitly mapped walking route; reuse alone never populates refuge or evidence space. |
44 | - **New expedition.** Combat populations and growth opportunities renew after living return or revival. Living return keeps the room arrangement; death also shifts unjoined rooms. Permanent closures and other completed work remain changed, and new arrivals need viable sources and routes consistent with them. |
45 | - **Population placement.** Before an expedition begins, a mapped finite group may already have walked from its named unsealed source to its standing positions along an open route. Those bodies are deducted from the source, never copied. Its approach warning and commitment occur when the band wakes into the player's route. During play, further arrivals physically emerge from shown apertures or cross visible neighbouring thresholds after warning. Load, re-entry, retreat, waiting and efficient fighting never repeat initialization. |
| 46 | - **Growth.** The owner selected regular fighting growth with larger transformations at major horde milestones. [Combat Rules](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Combat%20Rules) owns its proposed cadence and milestone conditions; source and closure states remain physical facts. The open-local-source and sealed-local-source traces below map two states of one representative route; other placements and shifted arrangements still need their mapping. |
47 | |||||||
| 48 | ### Crowd-bearing hosts |
| 49 | ||||||||
| 50 | | Host | Entry sightline and receiving space | Source, feeding aperture, arrival and closure | Fighting choices, work position and retreat | Walking passages and facts kept | |
| 51 | |---|---|---|---|---| |
52 | | **R02 Cargo Turn** (E01; with R03) | From R01's threshold: the entry lane, the board and part cradle at the inside corner, the waist-high rack at the bend and, past it, the second lane ending at the patient-bay shutter with P01's floor frame and preview lamps in front. Both lanes are widened for a standing crowd (20–40); the bend stays the choke. | **Patient-bay ward**, a backing volume on the rigid R02/R03 assembly. The noisy final fastener or a completed Caller call releases its stage (40–60) through the shutter, across the frame and round the bend. **Seal:** P01's completed manual dog hand-cycle with the shutter across that lane; the dog sits beside the frame, reachable before it. A shutter held by the board or by the Fork Relay (the splitter) only suppresses the stage while held, and an undogged shutter returns neutral on withdrawal or death. | Hold the bend with the rack breaking one lane; install Fork so the board holds rack and shutter together, or carry it and fight the open lane. R03's fastener work is visible across the fixed throat. **Retreat:** R03→throat→entry lane→R01, never crossing the frame or the shutter lane and never depending on shutter state. | Fixed throat and conduit, releases in both rooms, the no-Fork selector path, R03's fasteners and bridge identity. The standing crowd is not a stage.
53 | | **R05 Pace Calibration Bay** (E02) | From the entry threshold the bay reads end to end: grounded interval, belt with return drum and stop, gait plate at the near end, pillar and Boltspitter line, P02's painted sector, cool bay and entrance-side clamp, and the duct grille at the far wall. Receiving space is a short apron beside the return drum past the last floor mark, then the open side lane opposite the belt. The bay is not widened into a hall. | **Belt-return duct** beyond the far wall. A thin continuous stream (15–30); starting either gait capture wakes it fully and it thickens while the captures run. Arrivals walk up the side lane and cross the interval only to reach the astronaut. **Seal:** drop the grille from the hard-cover position off the measurement line, through its visible linkage. | Pillar against the bolt line; cool bay reachable without entering the interval; alternate observation, movement and work. **Work:** the grounded pass and the feet-still belt ride. **Retreat:** the entry threshold at the plate end. | Every gait and belt endpoint, the return and the stop stay inside R05. The duct is neither the belt route nor R07's housing. Ivo's refuge door, his retreat to stocked R06 and the external face stay separate.
54 | | **R08 First Local Latch Hall** (E03, later variant only) | First lesson: one Clampcrawler in a quiet hall, count lamp empty. Later-expedition variant: the count silhouette of the occupied holding volume behind the opaque alarm-only shutter at the end of the branch P03's frame intersects. A side holding apron between that shutter and the centre island is widened for the later crowd (20–40). | **Holding volume**, reached only through the closed opaque shutter, with no mutual sight. A completed P03 alert opens the route; cutting the exposed lead before commitment prevents the stage; a cut after commitment neither closes the route nor recalls the crowd. **No seal:** P03's persistent commit dogs the shutter open, so this stage resolves only by clearing. A dogged-open shutter stays open and excludes the closed-holding variant; it is never closed again to stage a crowd. | Island cover and opposed-face sightlines; the latch work position sits inside the Crawler's arc while the side step and R09 retreat lie outside it. The apron's lane never takes the side step or blocks the network-side release. **Retreat:** R08→R09. | Introduction-seen bit set on entry to the first lesson; no creature on a retry within the same expedition; both-side releases; no second shutter or latch.
55 | | **R11 R-3 Approach** (E04) | From R01's leg: the bollard; the R12 leg with its gauge and R13's refuge door beyond; the exploration leg with the Flanker pack; and the quarantine-wing grille in that leg's side wall near the junction. The bollard apron is widened where the river turns; the legs keep their width. | **Quarantine ward wing**, a backing volume distinct from occupied R13. A Presser river (25–50 through the junction) pours through the grille and splits round the bollard. **Seal:** the grille's hand-wheel shutter on the junction side of the bollard, visible from R01's leg; the completed closure persists. | Hold R01's mouth as a funnel, work the bollard as hard cover or push to the wheel early; meet the Flankers on their leg. **Work:** walk the exact route, stock and confirm R12, check both controls. **Retreat:** R01's leg, straight to the airlock. | Three walking legs—ship, rescue, exploration—stay open, and closing the grille removes none. The rescue starts only once the route is quiet or separated; R13's inner door is survivor-operated; Sent needs that person aboard with the airlock closed; R12 is the counted abort.
| 56 | | **R14 Pump Hall** (E05 first stage) | From the entry: the tall room, the pump main ending at the back wall, the cable main crossing overhead with its service gantry, the gantry hatch where the main enters the wall, the fixed stair down beside the far pillar, the Boltspitter line, and the addressed workstation and A/B plate on the service apron. The stair lands on open floor with turning space, kept clear of the apron. | **Main service run** beyond the gantry hatch. Bodies cross the gantry and come down the stair (30–60 over the placement) while records are framed. **Seal:** drop the gantry hatch with the chain crank on the near pillar, whose run to the hatch is visible. | Fire up the stair as bodies funnel down; use the pillar against the bolt line; frame records from the apron. **Retreat:** R14's entry threshold. | The floor threshold to R15 is separate from the gantry and stays open; the continuing main defines no route; B face and release. | |
| 57 | | **R15 Cable Junction** (E05 second stage) | From R14's arm: the cross floor, the labelled bank where the cable main ends, the continuing pump main, the transparent rail with its pressure lane and gate, two cue bays, P04's detents, the Lens exchanger outside the sweep, and in one wall, side by side across the rail post, the open crawl panel and the duct grille. The pressure lane is widened to hold the rail group. | **Cable-duct run.** The rail group enters the lane through the grille and stays behind the rail until its gate state allows, so the Veilbearer's first cast teaches occlusion without ambush. A Boltspitter that survived R14 may walk the cued route behind a later veil. **Seal:** the grille lever on the record side of the rail post. | Cool bays against the sweeps; clamp faces reached from different bays; wait out or route round the veil. **Work:** the record position behind the rail, Lens removal, the crawl test. **Retreat:** R15→R14. | The crawl stays passable and testable; closing the grille leaves it open and promises no far bay. A/R faces and the other arms stay open. | |
58 | | **R17 Jammed Pressure Approach** (E06; with R20) | From the near threshold: the long lane, both offset pillars, the far threshold into R20, the marked blank panel under the far lamp, the side gallery along one wall with the Flanker pack in it and, between the pillars, two ward doors, one in each wall, with their locks. The lane is widened around the second pillar between the doors. | **Open-local-source pass: two side wards.** The Flanker-only approach comes first, down the visible gallery, before the wards are disturbed; it is standing opposition, not a release stage. Once the player is mid-hall the wards release one physical stage (40–80 through the hall). For ordinary growth, the standing Flankers and the two ward portions are three visible pressure bands, with a Break Mark preview at the gallery approach and each ward door. Fresh expeditions renew these local groups only through their viable approach and still-unsealed doors. With both wards sealed, Trace A2 instead places two R35-owned standing bands of 20–30 each in the long lane; the local groups do not renew. The locks are mid-hall too, so throwing them seals the stage after its release commits rather than preventing it. **Seal:** throw both ward-door locks as completed acts; each sits on the entry side of its door, reachable from pillar cover. | Meet the Flankers from the first pillar; move pillar to pillar; use the long lane as a firing line. Completed cutter work at the marked panel opens a narrow two-way local service passage from R17's near side to its existing far threshold into R20. Take the long lane outward for its bands, or use the passage as a bypass and safer return. **Work beyond:** R20's valve and caps, with Siphon a special pressure at the valve rather than another stage. **Retreat:** the near threshold, visible from the far end. | R17's long route and permanent local passage remain, with no added room, source, objective or station-joining face and no short-rescue qualification. R20 has no source: creatures use the shown walking thresholds under the relevant route mapping, two pillars stay between tether line and valve, and caps stay on different quarters with the dry outer arc.
59 | | **R23 Material Sorting Bay** (E07 host) | From R24's threshold: driver and receiver ends, the protected observation strip, ceramic strips across the Grid seams, both feed clamps, the Cycler cradle outside the transfer path, Veilbearer and Boltspitter. The receiving floor lies between that threshold and the Grid rail, beside, never over, the strip and ceramic routes. | No source in R23. Bodies from R24's hatches walk through the R24→R23 threshold onto the receiving floor. Transfer lines carry no creatures. The closures are in R24. | Lure a limited group across the rail and strike from cover; walk ceramic; wait at the veil sheet's edge. **Work:** operate the corrective pair or commit its capture from the strip, which releases R24's loft; Cycler. **Retreat:** R23→R24, crossing leg floor under the hatches until they are dogged. | Protected evidence refuses Cycler; the Grid arms only from physical rail impacts; a second B face at the far end of the receiving floor leads to R21 in Arrangement B without crossing the Grid seams, the strip or the transfer path.
60 | | **R24 Transfer Service Gallery** (E07 apertures) | From the R15 leg in Arrangement B: the bollard, R22's booth and its pair down one leg, the approach to R23's bay down the other, the closable service recess, three feeding hatches in the ceiling above the legs near their mouths and three dog wheels on the bollard apron. R21 cannot be seen from here. | **Transfer-gallery loft**, one backing volume over the gallery. Its stage releases through all three hatches when R23's corrective pair is operated or a capture of it is committed (30–60 through the placement); looking at or recording R21's or R22's clean pair releases nothing. Arrivals walk the legs toward the work. **Closure:** dog each hatch from the apron. With all three dogged before the release commits, nothing comes; growth and milestone consequences follow Combat Rules; after commitment, dogging the last open hatch seals and resolves the stage at once. | Bollard cover; each leg is a funnel; dog the retreat leg's hatch first. **Work:** framing angles. **Retreat:** the leg the astronaut entered by. | All three legs stay walkable for records and continuation. The abort recess lies under no hatch, and its door is separate from the dogs, Aster's outside lock at R22 and the transfer machinery.
61 | | **R25 Balance Gallery** (E08, setpiece A) | From the approach threshold: Bellback across the rib, the neutral line and paired plates, Bank vessels and frost indicators, cap control, stirrup, handrail, and both feeding mouths in the outer walls away from the two walking thresholds. The outer floor is widened outside the mechanism footprint; the plates are flush with it and open along their outer edge. | **Open-local-source pass: two adjacent source volumes.** The phase 2 stage holds 80–150 at once and passes several hundred through the crest. Still-unsealed mouths renew for a new expedition and split their finite release into visibly announced pressure bands; each mouth previews its actual future unpaid marks. The major opportunity remembers a committed mouth band and a valid Bellback answer in either order, as detailed in E08 and Combat Rules. With both mouths sealed, Trace A2 instead supplies two R35-owned bands of 40–65 via R26; the first includes the Bellback already across the rib, so only its other members cross. That warned crossing supplies the alternate commitment. The second band is separately warned and may overlap the first. Arrivals cross the outer floor toward the astronaut and, where their path crosses a plate, stand on it and load it. **Seal:** each mouth's closure on the wall beside it; closing one early shrinks the stage, and closing both resolves it. | Shelter at the rib; time the handrail and stirrup; hold one Bank lane; lure or shove bodies onto one plate to steer the tilt; or overpower. **Work:** caps, each a persistent commit; for a rib, two cutter releases and a seated pin, separate commits that fix that one rib while the other still swings. **Retreat:** the approach threshold and protected control. | Walking thresholds unaffected by either closure; only mass physically on the plates counts; widening does not enlarge the plates; no counter-wave after an early clear.
62 | | **R28 Regulator Gallery** (E09) | From the approach at the panel end: panel and reply socket, four rack aisles with plates and tells, the fan flank, the Grid rail between pull face and fan flank with ceramic bypass and clamps visible from the protected mark, the grille at the far end of the fourth aisle and the ceiling hatch above the socket. The cross-aisle before the panel and the rear service walk are widened for circulation. | **Rear rack store** behind the fourth-aisle grille: 30–60 enter, cross the rear walk and come down all four aisles. **Ceiling maintenance space** above the socket: a completed Caller call releases a second stage through its hatch; cutting the alarm first prevents it but does not recall bodies already moving. **Seals:** the grille by a pull rod at the fourth aisle's panel end; the hatch by a chain beside the socket; both independent of the alarm lead and the reply. | Aisles as firing lines; fan shelter and flank; lure a rail impact; walk ceramic. **Work:** pull R4, observe the line and test the matching R3 B plate from the protected marks. **Retreat:** the approach threshold. | Nothing depends on R29 or R30; neither volume stores a plate; closures never replace pulling or testing; A face and releases.
63 | | **R35 Receiver Vault Approach** (E10, setpiece B; with R36) | From the entry: the widened hall, two pillars spaced to keep the tether lane readable, Siphon radius, Shutterback's shelter angle, the Caller, one feeding mouth in each side wall, and in the far wall a hatch beside R36's opening, with the iris beyond. | **Two side-wall volumes** release the hall stage (80–150 at once). For Trace A2 only, their proposed finite total is 220–370: 140–220 allocated along the route and 80–150 retained at R35 at once. Reaching this hall does not restore the migrated allocation. A completed Caller call releases a second stage from the **far-wall volume** through its hatch, separate from that total. **Seals:** each side mouth from a control on its accessible side; the far hatch from a control on the hall side next to, never across, R36's opening. | Choose selector lane, fan flank or clamp route; hold the pillar line against Siphon; cut the alarm before the call completes. **Work:** in R36–R38. **Retreat:** R35's entry threshold. | R36's two side openings remain walking passages to R37 and R38 and are never sealed; R36–R40 hold no source; opening R39/R40 creates no population; without current R35 access, E10 waits.
64 | |||||||
| 65 | ### Protected hosts without sources |
| 66 | ||||||||
| 67 | | Host | What stays protected | |
| 68 | |---|---| |
| 69 | | **R04 Intake Marked Wall** | Marked wall, pressure door and blank panel for comparison. No feeding aperture; the panel is never a crowd hatch and reveals no neighbour. | |
| 70 | | **R06 Pace Approach Junction** | Ivo's stocked, closable abort recess, both controls and the visible short path. No aperture; closing R05's duct cannot close this path; no belt segment moves here. | |
| 71 | | **R10 Collar Service Spur** | Quiet refused-face inspection angle and interior release. None of M04's source variants. | |
72 | | **R21 Drive Pair Bay** | Clean first pair seen from the protected strip. Transfer lines are not creature routes; no source, and recording its pair releases nothing.
73 | | **R27 Thermal Exchange Room** | Mara's clean abort apron with its local tell, core release and R face. M10's gantry fitting belongs to R14 only.
| 74 | | **R31 Foundry Block** | B-output face, interior release and the failed B/B join. No source or closure requirement. | |
| 75 | | **R36 Pressure-Receiver Vault** | Iris, vessel, gauges, selectors, approach-side reverse, reply face and the two side openings as clamp-room passages. E10's sources are in R35. | |
| 76 | | **R38 West Clamp Recovery Walk** | The longer flank round the fan to the second clamp and iris-group release, with the bollard breaking the hose line. No closure becomes a prerequisite for the two-clamp path. | |
| 77 | | **R40 Isolation Coupling Hall** | Walking-latch controls separate from isolation, and the R36-side release. Opening R39/R40 adds no crowd. | |
| 78 | ||||||||
| 79 | Companion rooms keep their facts: R03's retreat through R02 never depends on shutter state; R12/R13 keep the one-junction rescue route; R20 and R37 carry no source. |

81 | ## Twenty-four reusable module briefs |
| 82 | ||||||||
| 83 | | Module / placed instances | Internal geometry and entrance–fixture relationship | Actions, pressure/discovery purpose and reuse limit | |
| 84 | |---|---|---| |
| 85 | | **M01 Airlock Spine — R01, R09** | Straight two-threshold corridor with a recessed safe-side return control, one side observation window and no blind midpoint. The inner threshold always faces the ship-rooted side when used at the collar; the outer face may change neighbour while unbound. | Supports readable retreat, first-shift comparison and network-side release practice. R01 uses the window and live collar trace; R09 uses the same sightline to verify a latch from both sides. It cannot conceal a junction, count as a refuge or guarantee what lies beyond its unbound face. | |
86 | | **M02 Bent Freight Turn — R02** | L-shaped cargo aisle with two lanes wide enough for a standing crowd. The entry lane runs from the threshold past the service board and part cradle at the inside corner; a waist-high rack at the bend obscures but does not hide the second lane, which ends at a feeding shutter from a host-owned backing volume. Board, removable part cradle and shutter view share one exposed work position, and the retreat runs back along the entry lane without crossing the second lane or depending on the shutter. | Makes installing/reclaiming Fork compete with holding two cued lanes and a released crowd. Its only placement is the opening Freight Split/Cargo Turn; later freight decoration must not be called this module unless it preserves the two-lane board choice, the separate retreat and recovery access.
87 | | **M03 Glazed Control Cell — R03, R07, R30** | Compact control room with glass toward the operated fixture, a rear retreat threshold and a side service face. The operator can inspect result before committing the next stage but cannot operate safely from outside. | R03 exposes rack/shutter and bridge fasteners, R07 exposes navigation-coupler release, and R30 records regulator-panel before/after states. Reuse earns distinct extraction, assembly and evidence work; glass never grants remote operation or unseen-room knowledge.
88 | | **M04 Split Service Junction — R06, R10, R11, R24, R38** | Three-leg T junction with a central fixed bollard, two visible branch mouths and one shallow service recess. A worker at the recess yields the centre and can be approached from either branch. The base form has no feeding aperture. A host adds a source only where its row says so—a side-wall grille (R11) or hatches above its legs (R24)—and then keeps all three legs walkable, widens only the bollard apron and puts the closure controls on that apron. | R06 supplies the pace-bay approach and Ivo abort recess without containing the belt, R10 supplies a controlled signature refusal, R11 makes the R-3 side lane one leg rather than a long escort, R24 gives transfer records distinct viewing angles, and R38 is the second-clamp flank. R06, R10 and R38 carry no source. The module supplies a readable choice of lanes, not a permanent relationship among whatever rooms currently occupy its branches, and reuse creates no population.
| 89 | | **M05 Pace Bay — R05** | Long marked floor interval parallel to a slow service belt; both begin and end inside the same room, together with the belt return and manual stop. A detachable gait plate sits at the approach end, with hard cover off the measurement line. Past the far floor mark a belt-return duct opens onto a short apron beside, not inside, the return drum; its grille drops from the hard-cover position through a visible linkage, and arrivals walk up the open side lane opposite the belt. | Hosts the same-astronaut voluntary-grounded versus carrier comparison, Stride source, Ivo variant, one Boltspitter cover lesson and a thin continuous stream rather than a hall crowd. It cannot treat survivor steps, recoil, shove or a rolling weight as the established Stride event, and the duct is neither the belt route nor a neighbour's housing. | |
90 | | **M06 Two-Face Service Hall — R04, R08, R40** | Rectangular hall with opposed visible service faces, a centre inspection island and release controls reachable from the interior/network side. One face can be studied without touching the other. R08 alone adds a side holding apron beside the island and one opaque alarm-only shutter into a non-playable holding volume, used only by its later-expedition variant; the apron never takes the island's side step or the path to the release. | R04 separates wall mark from pressure door, R08 teaches compatible join/refusal/release, and R40 uses the same readable separation for the profile-isolation boundary. R04 and R40 carry no source. Reuse makes old release geometry newly meaningful, but latch compatibility does not explain biological coupling and an isolation mode does not release a walking join.
| 91 | | **M07 Long Pressure Hall — R17, R35** | A straight main lane with two offset pillars, one fully visible side approach and a retreat threshold seen from the work end. Any tether or bolt line is readable before the player enters its final range. Crowd hosts add feeding apertures in the side walls, each with a closure on its approach side, and widen the lane around the pillars without hiding the tether or bolt line: R17 has two ward doors deeper in than its side gallery; R35 has two side mouths and a far-wall hatch beside, never in, the onward opening. R17 alone adds the cutter-opened internal service passage from its near side to its existing far threshold; this is not a shared M07 feature and adds no passage to R35. | R17 teaches the long no-language approach, a Flanker-only cue and Siphon retraction; R35 combines learned lines before the Receiver Vault. It supplies long access, never the short-rescue qualification. | |
92 | | **M08 Refuge/Recovery Vestibule — R12, R16, R37** | Small two-door pressure space with a closable inner door, visible gauge and a control reachable from both sides. It has standing room for recovery but no hidden continuation. | R12 is the stocked R-3 abort refuge, R16 is the `TAAN` stair-only comparison, and R37 contains the first iris clamp and a recoverable retreat. These uses differ by rescue, language and mechanism work. A vestibule is counted here; no attached panel or cupboard becomes another room.
| 93 | | **M09 Quarantine Ward — R13** | One refuge door opens onto a shallow treatment ward with fixed beds, a wall log opposite the threshold and a quarantined arc grid along a separate service edge. The occupant can operate the inner door without crossing the work lane. | Hosts the sole R-3 occupant, wall record, ward history and Arc source. The grid may be removed without erasing refuge or evidence. This module does not imply every ward is breathable, occupied or connected to the same corridor. | |
94 | | **M10 Pump/Drive Chamber — R14, R27, R31** | Tall machine room with one continuous main crossing overhead, one local machine terminating visibly at the back wall, two pillars and an accessible service apron around the terminating fixture. R14 alone adds a service gantry along the overhead main, a feeding hatch where the main enters the wall and a fixed stair descending to a landing kept clear of the service apron; the hatch chain runs down a pillar within reach of the floor. | R14 compares pump/cable mains, R27 exposes exchanger removal, and R31 turns the geometry into Foundry's outward blue-double pulse. R27 and R31 carry no source. R27 alone gains a proposed second ordinary walking threshold for Trace A2, away from its exchanger release, cooling fixture, R face and clean abort apron; it is not a generic M10 feature. The repeated shape lets earlier “which main ends” evidence reinterpret a later converter candidate; identical architecture does not mean identical purpose, and the gantry is R14's fitting, not the module's.
95 | | **M11 Cable Junction — R15** | Cross-shaped cable room with the heavy cable main terminating at a labelled bank while a pump main continues through. An open wall panel reveals a crawl edge; a transparent rail separates one visible pressure lane from the record position. A cable-duct grille sits in the same wall as the crawl panel, on the pressure-lane side of the rail post, and feeds that lane behind the rail gate; its closure lever is on the record side of the post, and closing it leaves the crawl open. | Hosts builder-run comparison, wall-access case, Thermal Lens, visitor continuation mark, A/B/address evidence and the placement-5 Veil/Bolt relation. Removing Lens chills only its exchanger. The crawl may block and never promises its historical far bay is currently reachable; the grille is never a route.
96 | | **M12 Sampling Loop — R20** | Circular pipe walk around a central sample line; cap controls sit at two quarter points, the local impact plate/Dynamo at a third, and the pressure regulator core at a reachable service gate. Two pillars interrupt the Siphon line. Two walking thresholds, the B face and an A face, open from opposite sides of the outer wall onto the dry outer arc between quarter points, so the paired vessels, both pillars and the dry arc are visible from either before any lane is entered. The service gate stays an internal gate to the core, not a third threshold, and the source-side pressure counter is unchanged. | Hosts objective 6's durable cap stages, Breath Bank, Dynamo, regulator assembly and source-side counter observation. Its loop supports withdrawal after one cap. It cannot become a short rescue route or let remote impacts trigger the local clamp.
| 97 | | **M13 One-Way Transfer Bay — R21, R23** | Two clearly separated end fixtures in one room: a driver visibly pushes through a line and a receiver visibly fills. A protected observation strip sees both; the material cradle, if present, sits outside the transfer path. R23 alone adds a receiving floor on its approach side, between its walking threshold and the transfer floor and beside, never over, the protected strip and ceramic routes, plus a second external face: a plain B threshold at the far end of that floor, reached without crossing the Grid seams, the strip or the transfer path. | R21 supplies the clean first pair; R23 supplies the corrective third pair, Cycler and a screened encounter whose crowd arrives through its first walking threshold. R21 carries no source, and transfer lines are never creature routes. Reuse must change what is tested—direction first, cross-register/body-slot and removable sorter later—not merely the colour of a pipe. | |
| 98 | | **M14 Decontamination Booth — R26** | Dirty and clean thresholds flank an air curtain, with a fixed rib, a side culture rack and a removable wall slab beside an ordinary standing passage. Separate service faces show the existing fixed transformation: forward accepts A and emits B; reverse accepts B and emits A. A manual inner control is reachable by the refuge-side person. | Hosts Mara's distinct rescue rack, wall-access discriminator, Nozzle source, short transfer and the early reversible Decontamination A↔B observation used by the network. Mode and pulse direction are visible and persist separately from walking access. Purging the rack never consumes R19's comparison cultures; removing Nozzle stops only the air knife, not the fixed service transformer. | |
99 | | **M15 Balance Gallery — R25** | Broad gallery centered on a neutral line, fixed rib and occupied maintenance stirrup. Breath Bank draw lane, Phase-Balance chamber and cap control are visible from the entry; waiting Pressers are visible before commitment. Two feeding mouths in the outer walls, away from both walking thresholds, open onto a widened outer floor; the paired plates stay flush with it and open along their outer edge, so bodies crossing toward the astronaut can walk onto them. | Hosts placement 8/setpiece A and one exchanger-core checkpoint. Durable cap/pin work changes later traversal. The gallery can be overpowered or crossed with cover/timing; it adds no reactive population and is not a generic arena shell. Widening the floor does not enlarge the plates.
| 100 | | **M16 Four-Rack Regulator Gallery — R28** | Four parallel regulator bays face one panel and reply socket. Each rack's plate, physical tell and pry access are visible without entering the others; a side fan creates one readable occlusion angle. A rear service walk links the aisle ends. The fourth aisle ends in a feeding grille from a rear rack store, and a maintenance hatch in the ceiling above the reply socket opens from a separate overhead space; both volumes belong to this room and both routes are visible from the panel. | Hosts R1–R4 A/B chronology, the reply protocol, Capacitor source and placement 9. Pull order can lose evidence but not basic work/reward. Neither source volume stores a plate or depends on a neighbouring room. Reuse elsewhere may borrow the rack grammar only if it preserves per-fitting identity and before/after observation. | |
101 | | **M17 Supply Booth — R22** | Narrow staffed booth behind a lockable personnel threshold, with a receiving fitting visible through mesh and a separate short-route door. The occupant controls the inner door; the outside lock panel remains reachable after departure. | Hosts Aster's non-R-3 rescue variant and the second transfer pair/body-slot recurrence. Locking closes one convenience reversibly, not the objective or other threshold. It is a real placed room, not a cupboard added free to Transfer Bay.
| 102 | | **M18 Sealed Receiving Section — R18** | Receiving chamber with a sealed direct-hoist boundary on one face, a one-junction side door on another and a destination fitting/drawer behind Dorn's inner controls. In an eligible arrangement both routes converge on counted abort room R12; no uncounted vestibule is implied. | Hosts Dorn's rescue, far-bay `OSH·b`, destination card and exposed ratchet. The side route can be verified while the boundary stays closed; opening the direct hoist commits first, then that route must be walked before rescue. Fixed hoist supply supplies motion; Fork passes only a compatible trigger. | |
103 | | **M19 Clinical Comparison Bay — R19** | Shielded two-tray treatment fixture faces a pressure-annex refuge. Active and physical-bypass feeds are simultaneously visible; the commissioning-card sleeve and tissue-record viewer are outside the exposure shield. | Hosts the controlled equivalent culture patches, profile card, active/bypass capture, later Yeva refuge variant and mechanism slot 11. Its cultures are not Mara's rack or Cycler sample. Interruption preserves only completed tray observations; isolation cannot reconstruct a missed live comparison.
104 | | **M20 Dense Service Stack — R29, R32** | Two-level shelving room with a central stair, visible vertical sight gap and a service face on each level. A network-side release remains reachable from the lower landing even when the upper face is occupied. | R29 stores identifiable plates and gives a safe regulator-viewing angle; R32 is Archive Stack with distinct B-output and R-input faces plus layered human notes. Reuse changes recovery versus historical interpretation; shelves never hide a secret playable cell or automatic record.
| 105 | | **M21 Fixed Conversion Exchange — R33** | Diamond-shaped room with immutable A-input and R-output service faces visible from a central plinth. A fixed internal exchanger maps A to R; it has no selectable mode. Other faces provide walking/release access. | Imaging Exchange is a rare fixed transformer, distinct from a static two-family bridge and R34's reversible mode. Its value is an observed A→R step and recovery from an occupied face, not a universal converter or mandatory single sequence. All controls remain reachable from within the growing network. | |
106 | | **M22 Pressure-Receiver Vault — R36** | Central iris and empty vessel face the entry; two side openings lead to separately counted clamp rooms. Gauge, inward/outward selectors, reply face and retreat boundary are visible before commit. | Hosts objective 11, mechanism slot 10, language convergence, trapped strip and setpiece B's final work. Direct selector or two-clamp equalisation reaches the same hand-cycle. The closed iris never hides its only recovery control. It has no feeding aperture; its side openings are walking passages only.
107 | | **M23 Deep Evidence Cell — R39** | One room beyond the iris with a sight baffle, inspectable instruments and a separate return threshold. The baffle control is on the approach side and opening it cannot close the way back. | Hosts one mutually exclusive captive-tissue or empty-template evidence package. Observation can change the leading story, never prove divinity, intent or an ending. This is a counted playable room; the baffle volume beyond it is scenery, not an unseen forty-first room.
108 | | **M24 Synchronization Gallery — R34** | Three-face gallery around a test plinth. Each face accepts a local test pulse; one reversible machine state visibly maps its input family to a different output while a separate roster display reports joined/discovered/anonymous counts. | Hosts mechanism slot 12 and the late converter insight. It diagnoses only current local transformations and join membership; it does not import journal records, reveal unseen names/routes or latch anything. Mode persists; walking latches remain separate.
| 109 | ||||||||
| 110 | ## Forty placed playable room instances |
| 111 | ||||||||
| 112 | ### Region 1 — Dock Collar and Service Intake (R01–R10) |
| 113 | ||||||||
| 114 | | Room / module / objective | Actual content and first action | Changed-understanding or revisit value | Access, persistence and join obligation | |
| 115 | |---|---|---|---| |
| 116 | | **R01 Dock Mouth — M01 — O1** | Station-side airlock corridor, collar back-feed trace and window showing the human-painted R-3 label, breathable indicator and repeated knock. First entry teaches suit readouts and physical return. | After isolation, the trace separates R-3's live bearing from collar fault; after death, the old outer neighbour is historical. | Ship threshold is fixed; outer **A** face may change until joined. Window supplies observation only. Clear retreat and inner release stay usable; this room cannot serve as R-3 refuge. | |
117 | | **R02 Cargo Turn / Freight Split — M02 — O1, encounter 1, mechanism 1** | Fork source, three-port rack/shutter board, P01's floor frame across the patient-bay lane, a standing Presser crowd in both lanes, cued Caller and the patient-bay stage. The board's hard conduit crosses only the fixed glazed throat into compact partner R03. Install Fork to pass one board pulse to both compatible outputs or keep it carried. | Revisit can reclaim/reinstall the same Fork and compare an installed object surviving a shift. Its split behavior later suggests, without proving, room-scale transformation. A completed dog keeps the patient-bay lane closed on revisit; a held shutter does not. | **A/B** external faces; board work, a completed dog and Fork location persist; population follows the encounter rule and power does not persist. R02–R03 internal relation persists as one compact assembly, with releases reachable from both rooms.
| 118 | | **R03 Collar Control — M03 — O1** | Isolation-bridge rack, patient-bay shutter view and staged fasteners receive only R02's fixed conduit. Remove and carry the first ship assembly while noisy work draws the opening crowd. | Installed ship bridge later makes the R-3 signal readable; returning shows completed fasteners and any relocked retaining arms. | **B** external face; R02 selector supplies the no-Fork path across the compact boundary. Fasteners/bridge location persist. Rear retreat through R02 never depends on shutter state. | |
119 | | **R04 Intake Marked Wall — M06 — O1/chain L2** | Builder-cut wall-access string beside a pressure door and matching blank panel. Record mark, material and closed condition without assuming a duct. | Compare with R15's open crawl and R26's standing passage; later choose R17's marked bypass test. | **A/R** faces with interior releases. Capture persists; panel/door work is separate. No mark reveals the current neighbour behind the wall. No feeding aperture; the panel is never a crowd hatch.
| 120 | | **R05 Pace Calibration Bay — M05 — O2, encounter 2, mechanism 2** | Same astronaut crosses the marked interval grounded, then rides the belt feet-still; both start/end points, belt return and manual stop are inside R05. Stride pulses only for the first. Boltspitter/pillar and Carousel supply readable windows. Ivo may occupy this refuge variant. | Revisit with Ivo keeps his authority through a ready signal while the astronaut triggers installed Stride, or uses the fixed manual cue. If R07 is currently adjacent, its separate coupler recovery can follow; otherwise that assembly waits. | **B** face. The self-contained test record and Stride location persist; current adjacency does not, and population follows the encounter rule. Ivo's short route separately requires stocked R06. The far-end belt-return duct feeds the room but is not its route. | |
| 121 | | **R06 Pace Approach Junction — M04 — O2** | The route into R05 passes the central bollard and a closable, braced service recess. This is Ivo's counted abort place only when stocked and on the verified current short route; it contains no belt segment, return control or indispensable test view. | Later gives the same bay a rescue approach without changing the astronaut-only apparatus evidence. If R05 is elsewhere, R06 remains a junction and no rescue eligibility is inferred. | **A** face and network release. Stocked checkpoint persists under its owner; current adjacency does not. No feeding aperture; no R05 closure can close its path. | |
122 | | **R07 Navigation Service Room — M03 — O2/O10** | Self-contained glazed coupler housing has its own release and capacity-check position. It contributes to O2 only when a visible current service throat connects it to reached R05; absence defers the coupler but not Stride testing. | After installation aboard, a return shows an empty housing and confirms assembly versus portable-part identity. | **R** face; release work and coupler location persist. No control crosses to R05, and the glass reports this fixture only.
123 | | **R08 First Local Latch Hall — M06 — O3, encounter 3, mechanism 3** | Two observed faces, wall-fixed charged diagnostic cradle, Triage Relay and Clampcrawler operator arc. Attempt one valid or refused join, then walk to the network-side release. The first lesson is quiet; only a later-expedition variant fills the holding volume behind its opaque alarm-only shutter. | A later wrong occupied bridge face can be recovered using this learned mechanical pattern. The record also helps reinterpret R40's separated walk/junction and isolation controls. | **A/B** faces. Join/checkpoints persist; cradle charge does not, and population follows the encounter rule. Both-side releases are mandatory and mismatch spends no pulse.
124 | | **R09 Release Walk — M01 — O3** | Straight return leg lets the player cross the new latch and operate its far/network-side release before relying on it. | After a shift, the walk proves the joined pair stayed traversable even if the next unbound neighbour changed. | **B** face. Selected seam state persists; outer adjacency remains current. Its corridor cannot be relabelled a refuge or objective room.
125 | | **R10 Collar Service Spur — M04 — O3** | Quiet third leg exposes one incompatible outward/outward signature and a safe inspection angle; it is the objective's controlled refused case, not another mechanism. | Later Foundry/Archive opposition gives the old refusal larger network meaning. | **R** face, interior release and no hidden source or M04 source variant. Capture persists; compatibility with a future neighbour must be observed anew.
126 | |||||||
| 127 | ### Region 2 — Clinical Exchange (R11–R20) |
| 128 | ||||||||
| 129 | | Room / module / objective | Actual content and first action | Changed-understanding or revisit value | Access, persistence and join obligation | |
| 130 | |---|---|---|---| |
131 | | **R11 R-3 Approach — M04 — O4, encounter 4** | Central bollard and three walking legs—ship, rescue and onward exploration—form the single contested junction on an eligible R-3 route. A Flanker pack comes along the exploration leg while a Presser river pours from the quarantine wing through a grille in that leg's side wall. Rescue begins only once the walked, prepared route is quiet or separated. Closing the grille stops arrivals but leaves what already came through. | A later visit with Arc removed changes local counterplay while leaving route/refuge work intact. The same module's other branch never becomes a hidden second junction. | **A** face. A completed grille closure persists; population follows the encounter rule. Closing the grille removes no leg. Only an actually walked current route can qualify.
| 132 | | **R12 Clinical Abort Vestibule — M08 — O4/O6** | Stocked travel air, two-sided door controls and gauge form the counted airlock-side abort point for R-3 or Dorn only when the relevant current route is walked. Preparing it happens while the game runs. | Revisit checks current flow and route after a shift; old preparation facts do not certify a new exterior path or serve two remote rescues at once. | **A/B** faces and both-side releases. Stocked/door checkpoints persist by their owner; current pressure, adjacency and rescue applicability require observation. | |
| 133 | | **R13 R-3 Quarantine Ward — M09 — O4** | Sole R-3 occupant is Yeva or Aster, never both. Hosts wall pressure log, early restoration record, active ward-machine identifier and removable Arc source. Rescue begins only after R01→one contested junction→R12→R13 is walked and prepared. | Wall/ward records later feed story Chains 1–3; removing Arc disables only the grid. The unused first-person variant is absent. | **B** outer service face lies outside the refuge door so joining never opens sanctuary or sends a person. Survivor state, work, Arc and evidence stay distinct. | |
| 134 | | **R14 Pump Hall — M10 — O5, encounter 5 part 1** | `KETH SORAN VEL`, pump main ending, cable main crossing, A/B plate and addressed workstation. Boltspitter line/pillar supplies the first separated cue. Bodies arrive along the overhead main's service gantry and down its stair while records are framed. | Compare R15 to infer first-position purpose; later apply or challenge that rule at pressure controls and Foundry-like rooms. | **B** face; records persist with provenance, machinery state separately. Capturing takes time while the game runs, and the continuing main does not define a route to R15. The gantry hatch closure persists and never closes the R14→R15 floor threshold. | |
135 | | **R15 Cable Junction — M11 — O5, encounter 5 part 2, mechanism 4** | `SORAN KETH VEL`, cable main ending, pump main crossing, second A/B/address case, open wall crawl, `OSH·a` continuation, Thermal Lens/exchanger and Carousel. Veilbearer screens a group held behind the rail gate, fed by the cable-duct grille beside the crawl; surviving Boltspitter may arrive through the cued approach. | Revisit can reclaim Lens, test the crawl or use later transfer evidence to predict its far terminal. Removed Lens leaves the language and wall observations. | **A/R** faces. Record, panel and object state persist; veil and current continuation do not; the grille closure persists and leaves the crawl open. Transparent rail and two cue bays are internal staging, not extra rooms.
136 | | **R16 TAAN Stair Vestibule — M08 — O5** | Stair-only terminating space under the single run `TAAN`; player records that a third builder string can name a different primary end. | Corrects a two-case overfit without proving translation; its pressure vestibule geometry later contrasts with rescue use of M08. | **R** face and reachable release. Capture persists. Stair ends here and hides no free upper room.
137 | | **R17 Jammed Pressure Approach — M07 — O6/chain L2, encounter 6 cue** | Long route, a Flanker-only approach along the fully visible side gallery, two pillars, two ward doors with hall-side locks deeper in, and a marked blank wall panel sharing a far-side lamp/crew-name sightline. The wards release one physical stage once the player is mid-hall; standing Flankers and the two ward portions supply three visibly previewed growth bands. Successful cutter work opens a narrow two-way internal service passage from the near side to the existing far threshold; Siphon is previewed before loop work. | Language-first order gives a reason to cut; build-first can complete via the long route and reinterpret the mark later. The opened local passage offers a shorter return or an outward bypass that forgoes the long lane's bands; a record alone opens nothing. | **A** face. Cut fasteners, moved panel, the completed internal passage and thrown ward locks persist; current external adjacency and Siphon state do not. The passage reaches R17's existing far threshold, whose current neighbour still requires observation; no new station-joining face or rescue qualification is created.
138 | | **R18 Sealed Receiving Section — M18 — O6** | Dorn refuge; verified side route, committed direct-hoist alternative, far-bay `OSH·b` receiving fitting, destination drawer/card and exposed non-reversing ratchet. | Comparing ratchet/card with R13 wall impression narrows one transfer order and changes testimony without naming a passenger. | **B/R** faces. Direct opening persists even if its route fails verification; side checkpoints persist. Rescue waits for a walked short route. Fork carries control only; hoist supply provides motion.
| 139 | | **R19 Pressure Annex / Clinical Comparison Bay — M19 — O6/story 2, mechanism 11** | Mutually exclusive later Yeva host plus shielded active/bypass treatment trays, profile-commissioning card and matching tissue record. Two equivalent patches from one recorded source support the controlled comparison. | Full live comparison supports a human-configured harmful profile; only post-isolation ordinary closure shows present disconnection. No missing live record regenerates. | **A** face outside the refuge threshold, approach-side bypass and abort control. Culture patches are distinct from Mara's M1 rack and M2 salvage. Card, capture and survivor state persist independently. | |
140 | | **R20 Sampling Loop — M12 — O6, encounter 6, mechanism 5** | Breath Bank, Siphon/Flanker valve pressure, Impact Dynamo, regulator-core assembly, cap stages and source-side pressure counter. Perform cap/hand-cycle, then choose which rewards fit. | Later storage knowledge turns incoming impacts into a build opportunity; later language reinterprets the same redirected line without changing completed caps. | **B** face and a second **A** face, each a walking threshold onto the dry outer arc; both pillars and retreat remain intelligible from either. Caps, freed objects and captures persist; population follows the encounter rule; Bank cadence and unbound destination do not persist. No feeding aperture. The open-local-source pass admits visible followers through R17; Trace A2 instead allocates one R35-owned 20–30 band on the R20-to-R25 approach, including this room's existing Glass Siphon. It arrives along the mapped walking route, not through a new source. The Bank remains a separate mechanism.
141 | |||||||
| 142 | ### Region 3 — Ascension Works (R21–R30) |
| 143 | ||||||||
| 144 | | Room / module / objective | Actual content and first action | Changed-understanding or revisit value | Access, persistence and join obligation | |
| 145 | |---|---|---|---| |
146 | | **R21 Drive Pair Bay — M13 — O7** | First complete one-way pair: driving device, filling vessel, matched visitor brackets, A/B contrast. Operation physically establishes local direction. | Compare with R22/R23 before predicting any distant continuation; reversal remains a live rival until redundancy. | **B** face. Capture and completed operation persist; material/pressure reset only under the fixture rule. Pair identity never proves a walkable route. No source; the clean first pair stays an evidence bay. In Arrangement B it is reached only through R23; looking at or recording its pair releases nothing.
147 | | **R22 Receiving Supply Booth — M17 — O7** | Second complete transfer pair, receiving-fitting token in the utterance body slot, and Aster's later refuge variant. After Sent she may request the reachable personnel lock. | Narrows pair direction and later shows why a ledger is not a passenger list. Locking changes one convenience without closing the other objective threshold. | **A/R** faces outside the refuge door; one current short route and abort point required. Lock/record/survivor states persist separately.
| 148 | | **R23 Material Sorting Bay — M13 — O7, encounter 7, mechanism 6** | Corrective third pair, third A/B/address workstation, cross-register receiving token, Salvage Cycler source and optional Resuscitation Grid. Veilbearer screens the visible Boltspitter across separated evidence stations. The receiving floor lies between the R24 threshold and the Grid rail, beside the protected strip and ceramic routes; bodies from R24's hatches arrive through that threshold once the corrective pair is operated or its capture committed. A second B threshold at the far end of the receiving floor leads on, in Arrangement B, to R21. | Corrects accidental reversal; removing Cycler stops sorting but preserves transfer evidence and Grid state. Different salvage responses change rigs, not translation. | **B** face toward the approach and a second **B** face. Captures, pulls and Cycler location persist; veil/Grid charge and current approach do not. Protected evidence refuses Cycler selection. | |
149 | | **R24 Transfer Service Gallery — M04 — O7** | Three sight-separated branch mouths let the player frame pair records and choose the uncertain continuation without claiming that conduits are corridors. Its closable service recess is Aster's counted abort place only when stocked and on a verified R22 short route. Three feeding hatches above the legs, dogged from the bollard apron, drop E07's crowd from the transfer-gallery loft when R23's corrective pair is operated or its capture committed; the legs stay walkable and the recess lies under none of them. In Arrangement B its legs show R22's pair and the approach to R23; R21 is seen only from inside R23. | Arrival elsewhere or blockage records a factual result; later arrangements can make the same room useful as a release/recovery junction. | **A** face and central release. Traversal result is provenance-bound; no branch label supplies current topology. Hatch closures persist and are independent of the recess, Aster's outside lock and the transfer machinery.
150 | | **R25 Balance Gallery — M15 — O8, encounter 8/setpiece A, mechanisms 7–8** | Bellback preview, visible Pressers, Breath Bank, Phase-Balance neutral line, fixed rib/stirrup, persistent cap/pin, two feeding mouths in the outer walls and a widened outer floor from which bodies can walk onto the plates. One checkpoint helps free the thermal exchanger core. | With Nozzle/advanced rig the same pressure can be overpowered; low-power timing remains. Completed cap removes one draw side, changing revisit geometry. | **A/B** faces, protected control and retreat. Cap/pin/core state persists; mechanism phase does not; mouth closures persist and population follows the encounter rule. The sealed-mouth variant uses the R35 allocation through R26 in Trace A2. No reactive success wave.
151 | | **R26 Clean-Side Decontamination — M14 — O8** | Vector Nozzle/air knife, standing-passage wall mark, open removable slab, unmarked welded duct and Mara's distinct rack/refuge. A fixed service circuit visibly runs forward A-in→B-out and reverse B-in→A-out. Purge rack or seal it, then use a quiet short crossing whose counted abort room is R27 when current geometry qualifies. | Reinterprets “marked duct” as broader candidate access and supplies the Decontamination observation used in this inventory's converter example. Removing Nozzle makes cover/timing matter again but leaves the fixed A↔B circuit; Mara's rack has no consequence for R19's culture comparison. | **X(A↔B)/R** faces outside clean refuge. Under [Mechanical Interfaces And Opening Quantities](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Mechanical%20Interfaces%20And%20Opening%20Quantities), its mechanical selector and final detent work without diagnostic power; an actual test pulse requires current power/input. Converter mode, slab, rack, Nozzle and rescue states persist independently; pressure and route are current.
152 | | **R27 Thermal Exchange Room — M10 — O8/O10** | Exchanger core release and local cooling fixture show the fourth ship assembly as separate from portable Nozzle. Its pressure apron can be Mara's counted clean abort place only when stocked and on the verified R26 route. A proposed second ordinary walking threshold, away from the exchanger release, cooling fixture, R face and clean abort apron, meets R35's existing entry only in Trace A2's arrangement. Live pressure through it must be cleared or separated before the apron qualifies as a clean abort. Optional A/B plate is redundancy. | Empty housing on revisit confirms installation did not duplicate the core; pump-room similarity gains a different service meaning. | **R** face, reachable release and no hidden room. The added walking threshold supplies no network signal or rescue shortcut; its unjoined external relation becomes historical after a shift. Core, plate and stocked checkpoint persist under their owners. This room hosts retrieval, not the ship-side readiness report. No source: M10's gantry fitting belongs to R14.
153 | | **R28 Regulator Gallery — M16 — O9, encounter 9, mechanism 9** | R1 pulled/A with scar, R2 pulled/A, R3 intact/B, R4 intact/A; panel/reply face, all four original plates, protected viewing marks, Shutterback/Caller, Capacitor, a feeding grille at the fourth aisle's end and a ceiling maintenance hatch above the reply socket, both R28-owned. Pull R4, observe the line, then test matching R3 B plate. Nothing indispensable resides in R29/R30. | Wrong order loses the clean reply evidence but not work or Capacitor. Revisit can defer/reopen the current line with the same plate. | **A** face, fan flank and alarm lead. Pulls, lines, plate location and Capacitor persist; fan does not; grille and hatch closures persist and population follows the encounter rule. Invalid plates refuse without being consumed.
154 | | **R29 Plate Service Stack — M20 — O9** | Optional current adjacency to R28 offers empty labelled sleeves and a wider safe staging surface for a plate already removed from its rack; it neither creates nor stores an indispensable plate by default. | Supports recovery/organisation after an invalid reply and distinguishes exact object location from “known plate.” If not adjacent, the player uses R28's own surfaces and R29 waits as a separate lead. | **B/R** faces with lower network release. Any deliberately placed plate identity/location persists; shelf labels are not translation. No duplicate appears and no control crosses rooms.
| 155 | | **R30 Reply Observation Niche — M03 — O9** | When currently adjacent through its visible window throat, this optional room gives an alternate capture angle on R28's panel/R4 tell; R28 already contains a valid protected observation position. | Compared with R03's mechanical board, the familiar cell form no longer implies a nonresponsive system. If the relation is absent, this reinterpretation waits rather than blocking Chain 4. | **R** face. Captures persist with room provenance; live panel state must be observed. Glass neither performs a pull nor creates a second panel/control. | |
156 | |||||||
| 157 | ### Region 4 — Core Transfer Fringe (R31–R40) |
| 158 | ||||||||
| 159 | | Room / module / objective | Actual content and first action | Changed-understanding or revisit value | Access, persistence and join obligation | |
| 160 | |---|---|---|---| |
161 | | **R31 Foundry Block — M10 — O12** | Familiar terminating-machine geometry emits blue-double outward at its free service face; local work demonstrates direction without declaring this a language token. | Earlier pump/cable evidence encourages inspecting which main actually ends; the result reinterprets M10 as geometry, not purpose. Current B-output adjacency to R32's distinct B-output face produces the named failed join. | **B-output** face and interior release. Direction capture persists, current adjacency does not. No extra power or death makes two outputs compatible. No source.
162 | | **R32 Archive Stack — M20 — O12/story 4** | One exposed **B-output** face can oppose Foundry and refuse; a separate **R-input** face can later accept Imaging's fixed output. Layered human notes call the core patient/engine/prisoner; an A walking face can be occupied by a mistaken join. | Later cell evidence changes which note seems plausible without correcting any author. The failed B/B case and later R acceptance are two immutable faces, not a mode change. | **B-output/R-input/A** faces, each with a network-side control reachable from lower landing. Notes and joins persist; shelf order is not chronology unless physically evidenced.
163 | | **R33 Imaging Exchange — M21 — O12, special connection challenge 1** | Immutable A-input and R-output faces are simultaneously inspectable; the fixed exchanger is **A→R**, with no reverse or selectable mode, as linked in [Mechanical Interfaces And Opening Quantities](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Mechanical%20Interfaces%20And%20Opening%20Quantities). | Old captures distinguish this fixed transform from R34's reversible mode and from merely carrying two static families. A wrong occupied face can be released, but a physical join alone does not prove signal flow. | **A-input/R-output** plus walking release faces. Join state persists; an actual diagnostic pulse still requires current power and compatible oriented inputs.
164 | | **R34 Synchronization Gallery — M24 — O12, mechanism 12, special challenge 2** | Local pulse test shows one reversible A↔B transformation and current direction. Persistent roster lists joined, discovered-unjoined and anonymous counts without names. | Supplies the late converter insight and lets the player diagnose a failed family prediction. Mode change alters signal reach, never walking joins. | **X(A↔B)/R** faces, all releases inside. Mode and joins persist separately; diagnostic power is transient. Roster never reveals a room or completes a latch.
165 | | **R35 Receiver Vault Approach — M07 — O11, encounter 10/setpiece B entry** | Widened central span, two pillars, Siphon radius, Shutterback shelter angle, Caller, two sealable side-wall mouths and a far-wall hatch for a second stage are visible before commit. Choose selector lane, fan flank or clamp route. Trace A2 allocates a new proposed 220–370 finite total from the existing side-mouth volumes, preserving 80–150 at once here after 140–220 migrate along the route. | Earlier O6/O9 lessons turn the same threats into a combined work decision; cutting alarm creates a known quiet window. | **B** face and visible retreat. Cut lead and mouth/hatch closures persist; fan/tether state follows encounter rules. The far-wall hatch sits beside R36's opening, and closing it never blocks that opening. The long approach is not rescue geometry.
166 | | **R36 Pressure-Receiver Vault — M22 — O11, encounter 10/setpiece B, mechanism 10** | Empty vessel, gauges, builder selectors, visitor `OSH·b`, local inlet B plate/reply face, central iris and trapped builder-style seal strip under a later human adapter. Fixed internal passages lead to R37/R38 and, after iris opening, R39/R40. | Languages make pump/inward predictable; gauges/two clamps remain physical alternative. Equalisation closes the inlet line, then hand-cycle opens passage. Strip/card/berth comparison supports only limited chronology. | **A/R** external faces on the compact assembly. Clamp/equality/iris/plate/strip states persist. Closed iris cannot hide approach-side reverse or releases; R36–R40 do not shift apart. No feeding aperture; its side openings are walking passages only.
167 | | **R37 East Clamp Refuge — M08 — O11** | First mechanical equalisation clamp, gauge and hard retreat space outside the closed iris. Complete one clamp and withdraw. | A later reachable visit resumes at the second clamp without regenerating the first; familiar refuge geometry becomes mechanical recovery, not survivor shelter. | **A** face and two-side release. Clamp checkpoint persists, pressure reading is current. This counted room is one of the two side alcoves, not a free fixture.
| 168 | | **R38 West Clamp Recovery Walk — M04 — O11** | Longer branch around the fan contains the second clamp and a network-side iris-group release. Central bollard breaks the hose line. | Lets a low-power player finish after an earlier withdrawal and later release a mistaken join without crossing the iris. | **B/R** faces. Clamp/release work persists; fan and hose windows do not. Its branch cannot be deleted while the two-clamp alternative is kept. No source, and no closure becomes a prerequisite for the two-clamp path. | |
169 | | **R39 Deep Evidence Cell — M23 — O11/story 4** | Approach-side baffle and instruments expose either living tissue exchanging with containment or the mutually exclusive empty template lattice package. Its return threshold is a fixed interior passage to R36 within the compact assembly. | Supports one branch while preserving intent, divinity, consciousness and authorship as open. Revisit after isolation observes current effects only. | **R** assembly-external service face plus internal return control; baffle and captures persist. Behind-baffle volume is scenery. The room becomes walkably includable after iris opening and never shifts away from its return.
170 | | **R40 Isolation Coupling Hall — M06 — O11/O12/story 2/4, mechanism 13** | Separated walking-latch controls, profile coupling, live tell and approach-side isolation release occupy one room within the compact core assembly. Re-seat, leave, reopen or postpone while the game runs. | R08's two-face lesson distinguishes latch from signal state; if R40 is seen first, later R08 makes recovery geometry interpretable on return. Isolation breaks the live mixed-profile signal but not joins or ordinary revival. | **A/B** assembly-external faces outside the coupling. Isolation/live-feed/captures/joins persist independently. R36-side release is always reachable once the iris opens; no isolation state may maroon R39 or exempt either room from inclusion. No source.

172 | ## Where each obligation is hosted |
173 | |||||||
| 174 | ### Objectives, assemblies, parts, encounters and mechanisms |
| 175 | ||||||||
| 176 | | Obligation | Named host(s) and count treatment | |
| 177 | |---|---| |
| 178 | | **12 objectives** | O1 R01–R04; O2 R05–R07; O3 R08–R10; O4 R11–R13; O5 R14–R16; O6 R17–R20; O7 R21–R24; O8 R25–R27; O9 R28–R30; **O10 aboard ship only** using four retrieved assemblies; O11 R35–R40; O12 R31–R34 plus eventual inclusion of every R01–R40. No room is counted again because it hosts more than one obligation. | |
| 179 | | **4 ship assemblies** | Isolation bridge R03; navigation coupler R05/R07 release; pressure regulator core R20; thermal exchanger core R25/R27 release. Their installation/readiness report is aboard and adds zero station rooms. | |
180 | | **8 later part sources** | Fork R02; Stride R05; Arc R13; Thermal Lens R15; Impact Dynamo R20; Salvage Cycler R23; Vector Nozzle R26; Capacitor R28. The four starter parts begin aboard. Each source is one object identity with a stated removal consequence.
| 181 | | **10 encounter placements / 2 setpieces** | Placements 1–10: R02, R05, R08, R11, R14+R15 as one connected placement, R17+R20 as one staged placement, R23, R25, R28, R35–R38 as one staged placement. Setpiece A is placement 8/R25; setpiece B is placement 10/R35–R38. Multi-room staging does not create another encounter count. | |
182 | | **16 non-playable source volumes** | Patient-bay ward R02; belt-return duct R05; holding volume R08 (later variant only); quarantine ward wing R11; main service run R14; cable-duct run R15; two side wards R17; transfer-gallery loft R24, feeding R23's placement; two source volumes R25; rear rack store and ceiling maintenance space R28; two side-wall volumes and one far-wall volume R35. Each is backing geometry owned by its host and counts as zero rooms because the astronaut never enters it and it carries no action. Making any one enterable with its own action would add a room.
183 | | **13 placed mechanisms** | 1 Triage Relay R02; 2 Carousel R05; 3 Triage Relay R08; 4 Carousel R15; 5 Breath Bank R20; 6 Resuscitation Grid R23; 7 Breath Bank R25; 8 Phase-Balance R25; 9 Resuscitation Grid R28; 10 iris/two-clamp assembly R36–R38; **11 clinical profile comparator R19**; **12 reversible converter/roster R34**; **13 reversible core-isolation coupling R40**. The SMALL band's sample has 12 mechanism slots; core isolation is a thirteenth. Iris, comparator, converter and isolation are objective mechanisms distinct from the five reusable trap families.
184 | |||||||
| 185 | Mechanism 10 is one placed identity spanning the vault and two counted clamp rooms. Its direct action warns with gauge/flow arrows, stages selector→equalisation→hand-cycle, preserves each clamp/equality/iris checkpoint and reverses a wrong selector through neutral. Mechanism 11 warns through two visible tray feeds, stages patch placement→active/bypass observation→capture, preserves only committed observations and recovers by safe interruption/withdrawal; later isolation may remove the live input. Mechanism 12 previews input/output arrows before a mode change, commits one reversible A↔B transform state, retains independent walking joins and recovers from a wrong physical seam at its network-side release. |
186 | |||||||
187 | Mechanism 13's physical identity is R40's old isolation collar, profile conduit, manual re-seat dogs and same-side release. A visible preview states **disconnect mixed profile; ordinary revival unchanged; reversible here**. Its stages, all taken while the game runs, are inspect live tell → release human bypass → seat the old collar → close the dogs; only closed dogs commit isolation. Interruption preserves completed dogs but does not claim disconnection until all close. Reopening uses that same reachable R36-side release, reconnects only if the source is currently active and never changes walking latches. Isolation state and live-signal state are separate. Merging it into the iris would erase the choice between opening access and later isolating the profile. |
188 | |||||||
| 189 | ### Language, story and cast |
| 190 | ||||||||
| 191 | | Obligation | Physical hosts and non-duplication boundary | |
| 192 | |---|---| |
| 193 | | **Language I chain 1** | Ordered runs and ending mains: R14 pump, R15 cable, R16 `TAAN`. Same captures later inform R17/R20 pressure work and R36 selector; they are not new clues each time referenced. | |
194 | | **Language I chain 2** | Marked closed panel R04; open crawl R15; marked standing passage and unmarked welded duct R26; chosen cutter test R17, whose successful work opens its local service passage. Knowledge guides the test but does not perform it. Panels and openings belong to their rooms and add none.
195 | | **Language II chain 3** | Three complete transfer cases R21, R22, R23; `OSH·a` continuation R15 and far-bay `OSH·b` receiver R18. A traversal result is an evidence state, not another site.
| 196 | | **Language II chain 4** | Five A/B contrasts R14, R15, R21, R22, R23; address-slot cases R14, R15, R23; body-slot recurrence R22; R1–R4 gallery/reply R28–R30; later inlet plate/reply/equality R36. Objective 8's R27 plate remains optional redundancy. | |
| 197 | | **Story chain 1 / history anchors** | Berth intake trace/profile revision is aboard; installed Fork R02 and fasteners R03 demonstrate persistence; ward restoration location R13 supplies the non-berth comparison. The berth is not station room 41. | |
| 198 | | **Story chain 2** | Early ward log/active identifier R13; commissioning card, tissue record and controlled culture comparison R19; line/counter state R20; regulator evidence R28; live coupling and isolation R40. Mara's R26 rack is explicitly distinct. | |
| 199 | | **Story chain 3** | R13 wall counter impression; R20 source cycle; R18 destination fitting, transfer card and exposed ratchet. Aster's ledger/table and the later D3/Y3/A3 conversations are aboard. No duplicated record drawer. | |
| 200 | | **Story chain 4** | Responsive console R28; inlet reply and trapped strip/human adapter R36; mutually exclusive direct evidence R39; coupling/isolation R40. Human profile card R19 and berth trace aboard complete the limited strip→profile→docking comparison. | |
201 | | **5 short rescue identities / alternative hosts** | I1 R05 with abort R06; mutually exclusive first Y1 or A1 at R13 with abort R12; non-first Y1 at R19 with R12 when eligible, or A1 at R22 with R24; D1 R18 with R12 when eligible; M1 R26 with R27. Thus five scene identities use six refuge rooms with seven mutually exclusive host variants, not seven rescues; every named abort place is counted. Home Y2/A2/D2/M2/I2 and evidence scenes remain aboard and add zero station rooms; the initial D2 packing demonstration is Dorn-participating before later commissioned solo use.
202 | |||||||
203 | ## Two qualitative arrangements |
204 | |||||||
205 | These are two eligible paper arrangements. Unlisted rooms remain elsewhere in the same arrangement; a route shown here does not reveal them. Each route step below is a **walking adjacency**: two thresholds standing open to each other in this arrangement, crossable now. That is not a persistent join, which still needs a compatible pair, the latch preview and its hand-cycle, and it carries no directional network signal, which only faces with input or output arrows can pass. |
206 | |||||||
| 207 | ### Arrangement A — build-and-ship first, with one valid short rescue |
| 208 | ||||||||
209 | The opening occurred in a prior, separate arrangement: **R01→R02⇄R03**, with R02/R03's fixed compact throat and a then-current R02 side exit toward R05/R07. The player returned alive with the bridge, so no neighbour changed during that opening. A later ordinary death made those unbound external relations historical while preserving the compact R02/R03 pair, completed fasteners and installed ship bridge. |
210 | |||||||
211 | In **Arrangement A**, R01's one outer threshold leads only to **R11**. R11's three legs are: R01 entry, **R12→R13** rescue branch, and an exploration branch toward R17. Thus the rescue route is **R01→R11 (one contested junction)→R12 (stocked abort vestibule)→R13 (R-3 refuge)**, not a second R01 exit. The astronaut walks this exact current route, checks flow and both controls, and makes the crossing quiet or separated before transfer. Yeva or Aster operates the R13 inner door, walks under their own power and may call abort. Ordinary abort reaches R12; Sent exists only after that same person reaches the ship and its airlock closes. The encounter does not move with them or grow into another junction. |
212 | |||||||
213 | R11's exploration leg currently reaches **R17**, whose far threshold meets **R20**'s B face; R20's second walking threshold, its A face, meets **R25**'s A face, and R25 leads on to R26–R27 for Balance/Nozzle/exchanger. The ordinary encounter at R17/R20 therefore stands between the sealed R11 source and setpiece A; Trace A shows renewed fighting along the long lane and the completed local passage used on return. That passage remains inside R17 and reaches the same existing far threshold into R20; it creates no second ship exit or exterior face. Gauges allow objective 6 before formal language work; later records from R14/R15 and R21–R23 reinterpret the already captured pressure destinations. R20's completed caps and removed Dynamo remain true, while any later death makes these current routes historical. Installing all four assemblies aboard exposes objective 10's readiness report, not departure or credits. |
214 | |||||||
215 | The sealed-local-source variant in Trace A2 adds an explicitly proposed R27 second walking exit meeting R35's existing entry: R17→R20→R25→R26→R27→R35 is then the current open migration route. This adds geometry within R27, not a room or a signal face, and preserves the separate R35→R36 core approach. The relation is conditional on this arrangement, not preserved automatically through death. |
| 216 | ||||||||
217 | In any later eligible arrangement for Dorn, R18's side route must be walked while the direct boundary remains sealed. Choosing the direct hoist opens it persistently; only after the astronaut walks the newly exposed route and finds it short may rescue proceed. Finding an extra junction leaves the opening committed and Dorn waiting; a separately verified current side route is the alternative. |
218 | |||||||
219 | ### Arrangement B — language-and-network first, with rescue deferred |
220 | |||||||
221 | R01's outer threshold meets **R14**, whose floor threshold meets **R15**. R15's arms lead back to R14, on to R11 and on to **R24**; its crawl is a test, not a route. R24's other two legs reach **R22** and **R23**, and R23's second external face, a plain B threshold, meets **R21**'s B face, so R21 is reached only through R23. The player records builder mains and visitor transfer pairs, visits R08 for the first latch, and uses gauges plus those predictions at R17/R20. In this arrangement R-3 is reachable only through **R14→R15→R11→R12→R13**: two exposed junctions lie between airlock and refuge, and R12's ship-side abort path is not current. The R-3 person remains waiting. A bearing, a photographed wall string and knowledge of the old route cannot compress it, and no staged refuge chain appears. The player pursues other objectives until a later arrangement yields a genuinely short walked route. |
222 | |||||||
| 223 | At R28, physical pull/reply work makes responsive procedure concrete before R36. R35–R38 then offer direct or two-clamp equalisation, opening R39/R40 without language as a gate. Suppose R40 was seen first: its opposed faces and two kinds of control are recorded but not understood as a recovery pattern. A later visit to repeated module M06 at R08 teaches that walking latch and network-side release remain distinct. Returning to reachable R40 lets the player identify the analogous physical release while keeping the profile-isolation control conceptually separate. If R08 was visited first, the same insight applies forward. The module earns reinterpretation in either order without a required chronology. |
| 224 | ||||||||
225 | The first objective-12 lesson can be a direct failed adjacency: R31's **B-output** meets R32's separate **B-output**, so the opposed arrows refuse before latching; R32's R-input is visible elsewhere on that same room and does not rescue this face mismatch. R34 later demonstrates only its own reversible A↔B mode. Comparing that local behavior with R26's recorded Decontamination forward/reverse observation supports a possible converter sequence, not an automatic route. |
| 226 | ||||||||
227 | For a successful diagnostic opportunity, assume successive ordinary play makes these exact free faces adjacent to the growing network: R31 B-output→R26 B-input while R26 is in reverse; R26's other face then emits A into R33's immutable A-input; R33's fixed exchanger emits R into R32's distinct R-input. Each walking seam is inspected and latched while the game runs, and no record guarantees its next orientation. Only with current diagnostic power and those observed modes can a pulse confirm **R31 B-out→R26 B-in/A-out→R33 A-in/R-out→R32 R-in**. Physical walking completion remains independent of that signal and still requires inclusion of every R01–R40. |
228 | |||||||
229 | ## Two living returns |
| 230 | ||||||||
231 | Both traces follow a living return without a room shift. Temporary upgrades and unchosen offers ended aboard; carried property, permanent work and knowledge remain. The new expedition renews combat populations and regular-growth opportunities through viable sources and routes. A **mouth** is a feeding aperture; a **release stage** is a finite sourced crowd whose resolution changes pressure; a **work stage** is a physical step on a mechanism or objective, with its own checkpoint and warning rules. Major-milestone rewards follow Combat Rules rather than automatically attaching to every resolved release. |
232 | |||||||
233 | ### Trace A — fresh ward bands and a lasting local passage (Arrangement A) |
234 | |||||||
235 | **Route.** R01→R11→R17→R20→R25. R11's rescue leg remains R12→R13; R17's existing far threshold meets R20's B face, and R20's A face meets R25. There is no extra ship exit. |
236 | |||||||
237 | **Checks.** *Walking:* each step uses one current threshold: R01→R11's ship leg; R11's exploration leg→R17's near threshold; R17's far threshold→R20's B face; R20's A face→R25's approach threshold at its A face. *Rescue:* R01→R11→R12→R13 is unchanged, with one contested junction. Mara's route to R26 crosses R11, R17, R20 and R25, so her rescue waits in this arrangement; Dorn and later Yeva stay unclaimed. *Discovery orders:* the build-first player uses R17's long route and R20's gauges before any language; a player holding R04's marked-wall capture can choose the cutter panel instead; R14/R15 records reinterpret R20's destinations whenever they arrive. Breath Bank is met at R20 before R25, matching the Encounter inventory's assumption that its warning is learned at P05. *Boundary:* E08's withdrawal crossing is R25's threshold toward R20. |
238 | |||||||
239 | **Checkpoint.** The rescue expedition closed R11's quarantine-wing grille and cleared the bodies already inside, stocked R12, captured R13's wall log, and brought the R-3 survivor aboard with the airlock closed: Sent. On the earlier ward-hall visit, the astronaut fought through R17 without permanently locking its wards. R04's marked-wall capture made the panel an informed cutter test. Completed cutter work opened R17's narrow two-way service passage from its near side to its existing far threshold into R20. Returning alive kept this arrangement and every permanent change, while ending temporary power. |
240 | |||||||
241 | **Fresh pressure.** R11's closed grille sends no new bodies. Sound and movement on the exploration leg warn of the fresh Flanker band in R17's visible side gallery; alerted Flankers can follow through the shown near threshold. Both still-unsealed wards hold fresh Pressers and release through their own doors. The gallery approach and each ward door show one band preview. The long lane retains two pillars, its two hall-side locks and one physical ward-release stage of 40–80; the standing pack plus two ward portions are three growth bands, not three new releases. |
242 | |||||||
243 | **Outward choice.** With the starting rig, meet the Flankers from the first pillar, then move along the long lane. Breaking the pack and both ward bands banks one ordinary Tune before R25. A queued Tune and partial progress survive taking another choice or retreating within this expedition; [Combat Rules](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Combat%20Rules) owns the detailed queue and thresholds. The player can take a choice during the journal's full pause or keep fighting. Throwing the ward locks stops their access, not bodies already through; each seal previews the actual uncommitted marks it would prevent. The local passage is also available outward, forgoing these bands rather than granting their growth. R25 retains its no-upgrade baseline. |
244 | |||||||
245 | **Work and climax.** Earn quiet by clearing or separating the arrived bodies, then inspect the panel and its lamp/crew-name sightline. R20 has no source: only real, visible followers from R17 plus the existing Glass Siphon can apply creature pressure there. Its Bank caps, regulator-core assembly, Dynamo and source counter retain their own work and property rules. At R25, the two unsealed mouths announce finite bands. The mouth commitment and Bellback answer are remembered in either order, and the gallery shows which fact has occurred. Leaving the locked cone, sheltering at the rib through its wave, catching it with a faced Barrier, interrupting the unfinished brace by displacement, or defeating Bellback can supply the answer. When both facts exist, transformation ready appears once while later crowd remains. No immunity or replacement creature protects the milestone. Caps and rib pins remain physical work; Nozzle and the exchanger core remain in R26–R27. |
246 | |||||||
247 | **Return and next visit.** The completed R17 passage provides the local return shortcut; it does not automatically qualify any survivor route. Going home ends the temporary climb again. R11's seal and the passage remain, and fresh bands can return through R17/R25 sources that are still viable. R20's Bank phases warn again from neutral unless a cap was closed. This trace covers that explicit open-ward/open-mouth configuration. Trace A2 covers one all-local-seals variant below; neither trace establishes renewal for arbitrary seal combinations or changed external neighbours. |
| 248 | ||||||||
| 249 | ### Trace A2 — the local sources stay sealed |
| 250 | ||||||||
| 251 | **Changed preparation.** R11's quarantine grille, both R17 ward doors and both R25 mouths are permanently shut; R17's internal passage remains open. R35's two side mouths remain unsealed. The proposed R27 second walking exit connects to R35's existing entry in this arrangement. Empty local source windows, locked mouths, shipward-facing bodies, scuffs and successive threshold movement distinguish the distant pressure from the work already completed. The ship remains safe, and the ship side of the shut R11 grille has no renewed crowd. |
| 252 | ||||||||
| 253 | **One conserved source allocation.** R35's existing two side-mouth volumes receive a proposed finite total of **220–370 bodies** for this arrangement: |
| 254 | ||||||||
| 255 | | Placement | Allocation and growth role | |
| 256 | |---|---| |
| 257 | | R17 long lane | Two separated standing bands of **20–30 each**: **40–60** total, marks one and two. Both ward doors stay locked; E06's local groups do not renew. | |
| 258 | | R20-to-R25 approach | One **20–30** band, **including R20's existing Glass Siphon**, supplies mark three. R20 remains source-free; the Breath Bank is a separate mechanism. | |
| 259 | | R25 / R26 approach | Two bands of **40–65 each**: **80–130** total. The first includes exactly one Bellback already standing across the rib; only its remaining members cross R26→R25 after warning. The second is visibly warned and may overlap the first. | |
| 260 | | R35 receiver hall | **80–150 retained at once**. Its existing Shutterback, Siphon and Caller pressures keep their rules. The Caller-gated far-wall stage is separate from this allocation. | |
| 261 | ||||||||
| 262 | The route's **140–220** and R35's retained **80–150** add to **220–370**, not extra copies of E10. Before departure, the mapped groups have walked R35→R27→R26→R25→R20→R17 to their standing positions. During play, movement follows the visible route after warnings. Re-entry never restores a spent allocation, and reaching R35 does not refill its source ledger. |
| 263 | ||||||||
| 264 | **The outward climb.** Take the long R17 lane for its two bands or use the local passage and forgo those two marks. Clearing or separating the forward pressure earns the marked-panel lull. The R20 approach band supplies the third mark before the gallery, so the player can take a Tune in the paused journal during the counter lull. Breaking a band does not remove its surviving Siphon; that creature must still be handled or separated. The Bank continues under its own physical cap and withdrawal rules. The existing Storm Choir can choose Echoing Arc here and bring branching ordinary fire into R25; other compatible rigs and the no-upgrade baseline remain valid. |
| 265 | ||||||||
| 266 | **Gallery payoff and quiet.** The first cohort's warned threshold crossing records horde engaged. A valid Bellback answer and commitment are remembered in either order, including an early defeat. The major becomes ready as soon as both exist, without waiting for a Tune to be taken. The second band approaches with a visible warning and may overlap the surviving first; it is not a response to kill speed. No replacement Bellback appears. The two cohorts leave a substantial crowd for the transformation, while later clearing or separation earns the far-wall discovery lull. All local mouths stay shut. See [Combat Rules](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Combat%20Rules) for the existing answer, growth and queue rules. |
| 267 | ||||||||
| 268 | **Return, rescue and limits.** The R17 passage shortens the earned-quiet return but remains two-way and does not stop pursuit. R27's added threshold supplies no shorter rescue: its clean abort apron must be stocked, on the verified short R26 route, and clear or separated from this pressure. Mara still waits in Arrangement A's long ship route; the R11 rescue leg, Dorn/Yeva limits and R36–R40 core assembly remain unchanged. A living return with the same arrangement initializes this finite allocation once for the next trip. A death can change the unjoined R27→R35 relation. Another source requires its own mapped allocation, open path and warnings; otherwise this corridor stays quiet while fresh combat and growth need another current frontier. That is a coverage limit, not an owner-approved exception to renewal. The larger source capacity, distant cues, added threshold and player experience remain unvalidated proposals. |
269 | |||||||
270 | ### Trace B — through R14 and R15 to R24's transfer-gallery loft (Arrangement B) |
271 | |||||||
272 | **Checkpoint.** A living return after E05. R14's gantry hatch was dropped and R15's rail group cleared during that expedition. Both builder runs and the A/B/address plates are captured, the Boltspitter was defeated, and the Lens was carried home. P04's first clamp is cut but its final detent is not locked. |
273 | |||||||
274 | **The next expedition.** R01→R14 across its floor: the stair landing is quiet and the hatch is closed. R14→R15: the rail gate stands open, and P04 warns from neutral again because its detent is unlocked. The player crosses between sweeps using the cool bays. New-expedition population placement must respect the closed R14 hatch and use the still-available approaches; the previous clearance does not preserve an empty R15 forever. R15's R11 arm leads towards R-3 by a route with two exposed junctions, so that rescue still waits. R15's third arm opens onto R24. |
275 | |||||||
276 | **Next sourced encounter.** From R24's entry leg the player sees the bollard, three closed hatches above the legs with dust sifting from the occupied **transfer-gallery loft**, three dog wheels on the apron, the closable recess, R22's booth down one leg and the approach to R23's bay down the other. The loft supplies E07's release stage. It releases only when R23's corrective pair is operated or a capture of it is committed; looking at or recording a clean pair releases nothing. *Knowledge-led choice:* R14 and R15's address plates point to R23's third workstation as the test that matters. The player can first slip along R23's receiving floor past its Veilbearer and Boltspitter to R21 and read the clean pair, then come back to the corrective test knowing which direction to expect. At the apron they choose: dog all three hatches before starting to prevent the release, or leave them open and clear the released crowd or dog the hatches afterward. These choices change pressure and access; their growth and milestone consequences follow Combat Rules rather than a guaranteed choice for stage resolution. |
277 | |||||||
278 | **Baseline without upgrades.** Walk the ceramic strips; use the Boltspitter's locked line to lure one rail impact; wait out the discharge; frame from cover, since R15 showed that a veil invalidates targets. Dog the hatches first, or step back to the apron to dog them once the release has come, and clear or slip past what landed. The retreat runs R23→R24→R15. |
279 | |||||||
280 | **Beyond.** R21 is a dead end in this arrangement: its one face is the threshold from R23, and its clean pair has no stage. R22's booth is next to the apron. A later Aster rescue there would need her to be the non-first host, R24 stocked, E07 quiet or separated and a walked one-junction route. Further crowd sources in this arrangement lie off this branch: R17's side wards, R28's rack store and ceiling space, and R35's mouths. On another expedition, renewed crowds must fit the surviving open routes and permanent hatch states. P04 still warns unless locked. The full renewal mapping for this branch remains to be designed. |
281 | |||||||
282 | ## Whole-station eligibility |
283 | |||||||
284 | No playable room may be permanently isolated. Each room has at least one threshold face with an inside/network-side release. A growing connection must extend from the ship-rooted network or merge a fully walkable island through a release reachable after the merge. A join occupies two specific placed faces and persists without power; converter mode and diagnostic reach are separate states. Releasing one mistaken seam leaves other joins, machine modes, room work and current adjacency intact until the next shift. |
285 | |||||||
286 | R13, R19, R22, R18, R26 and R05 keep rescue refuge doors separate from join faces: connecting their room exterior does not open the refuge, move a survivor or certify a rescue route. **One further clearance is required at each eligible rescue host (pending owner decision):** a survivor-operable retreat line must physically exist from every committed segment to the scene's counted abort room — R06, R12, R24 or R27, the four already allocated — with two-sided or survivor-side controls, and that abort room must carry a local closure tell readable only at its own control. Nothing is transmitted to the ship. A host that cannot supply this is not eligible to begin a crossing. This adds no room, module or refuge to the counts. R39 behind the iris becomes eligible only through the physically opened R36 passage, and R40's isolation never removes its walking threshold. Optional evidence, removed part sources and rooms behind intervention remain included even if their live signal or fixture function is absent. A room's only release may never sit behind its own closed boundary, a critical face may never be buried with no network-side control, and a story choice may never delete a room from the roster. |
287 | |||||||
288 | The Synchronization roster may state 40 anonymous total identities, discovered versus joined, but exposes no unseen names, routes or faces. A physically joined room remains counted when diagnostic power is lost. The inventory therefore makes completion inspectable while accepting the spoiler that hidden rooms exist. The final shift algorithm must preserve stable identities and joins, respect compact mechanism boundaries, make every unjoined room eligible for some arrangement and never promise the next arrangement. |
289 | |||||||
| 290 | ## Concrete smaller variant |
| 291 | ||||||||
292 | Reduce the sample to **22 modules / 36 rooms** by removing **M21 Fixed Conversion Exchange**, merging **M03 Glazed Control Cell** into an expanded M02 opening/control module, and deleting **R07 Navigation Service Room, R30 Reply Observation Niche, R33 Imaging Exchange and R37 East Clamp Refuge**. R03 becomes the second M02 placement rather than referring to a deleted definition. |
293 | |||||||
| 294 | - Move R07's coupler release into R05's existing side service housing; the part/coupler decision remains, but the separate “empty assembly housing” revisit disappears. |
| 295 | - Move R30's before/after capture angle into a protected recess inside R28; the reply chain remains, but the player loses the spatial distinction between operating a rack and observing it from another room. |
296 | - Move R33's required fixed A→R exchanger into a separately labelled channel on R34 while retaining R34's reversible A↔B mode. The network remains potentially connectable, but one room now carries two transformation behaviors and loses the clearest fixed-versus-reversible comparison. |
297 | - Move R37's first clamp into R36's east wall while R38 retains the second; the two-clamp action remains, but staged withdrawal after one full alcove is less spatially expressive and setpiece B becomes denser. |
| 298 | ||||||||
299 | Every essential part, assembly, language/story record, rescue and objective retains a named host, and all 13 placed mechanisms remain, but the reduction sacrifices recovery-space variety, one strong reusable control-room contrast and the late network's fixed-versus-reversible transformation discovery. It requires re-review of setpiece B geometry, R34 cue density and the connection graph. |
300 | |||||||
301 | ## Strongest experience and accepted costs |
302 | |||||||
| 303 | **Strongest useful experience.** A familiar spatial grammar gains a different meaning: a pump-shaped room teaches that architecture is not purpose; a two-face hall first teaches recoverable joins and later helps separate walking access from biological isolation; old language and pressure records make a later action intelligible without turning notes into a map. The station becomes a set of persistent places the player can remember and physically assemble, not forty interchangeable skins. |
| 304 | ||||||||
305 | **Accepted costs.** Forty room identities still require forty distinct state/revisit briefs and later layout work. Multi-room encounters and the iris need careful boundary ownership. Seven rescue-host variants across six rooms increase arrangement constraints. Publishing a 40-room roster exposes a known hidden count. Twelve rooms first designed for small fights now reserve receiving floors, apertures and closures; that is real layout work, and it risks making discovery rooms look alike. Renewed populations and growth must fit routes altered by permanent seals; the R17 passage and both representative routes still need later geometry and experience validation. The sealed route also costs a proposed second R27 threshold and a larger finite 220–370 R35 source allocation. R20 and R23 each need a second face. Three signature families, a reversible converter, Decontamination mode and one fixed converter may still be too much network notation—or too little late-puzzle depth. Zero added rooms depends on future geometry fitting every named refuge, fixture and release inside these counted rooms. |
306 | |||||||
| 307 | ## Open questions |
| 308 | ||||||||
| 309 | - SMALL versus another content band, and whether to take the concrete smaller variant (22 modules / 36 rooms); the owner has not selected either. |
| 310 | - Final room and module names. |
| 311 | - Permitted arrangements, final compatible face distribution and arrangement constraints, and the final joining mechanism (the persistent-latch system is proposed but not selected). |
| 312 | - Common versus rare module repetition. |
| 313 | - Exact populations, warning, rearm, recovery, combined and transient variants for the ten encounters and the thirteen placed mechanisms. |
| 314 | - Exact dimensions, sightlines at crowd density, traversal time and performance of the widened spaces (later layout work). |
315 | - Placement of the selected regular fighting growth and larger horde milestones, following the current Combat Rules proposal. |
316 | - Found parts versus fabrication (the acquisition model). |
| 317 | - Final cast and first survivor. |
| 318 | - Survivor mortality, including post-Sent mortality; transfer/death/shift ordering; death during a transfer (R13). |
| 319 | - The story/core package; endings; departure and diagnostic/ending relationships. |
| 320 | - Save policy. |
| 321 | - Full-connection behavior: whether connecting all 40 stabilizes the station or keeps joined groups moving. |
| 322 | - Whether a valid complete assembly exists, whether the converters suffice, how often useful adjacencies occur, and whether death-farming is possible. |
| 323 | - Full scripts, and exact survivor geometry in every allowed arrangement. |
| 324 | - The survivor retreat-line clearance at each eligible rescue host is pending owner decision. |
325 | - Renewal across other permanent-seal and joined-room configurations; the two mapped R17 routes do not establish every source capacity or shifted layout. |
326 | - These rules are untested; numbers are proposals. |
