2026-09-06 21:53:17 Anonymous: CLR101 r19 (append only): walked and timed the Hub's 'short owner read'. New Q50 - the path is Campaign 9,827 words plus Build Paths 2,880 = 12,707 words, about 55-60 minutes, against the Design Document's 91 minutes quoted on the same page, so 'short' is off by an hour; more than half is Campaign section 3 at 5,203 words, which is reference material worth keeping but sits inside the page the owner is told is short. The genuinely short read already exists one heading down - Campaign's own 850-word 'Read this first', which I tested standalone and it works, plus section 10's 218 words of owner decisions. Asks only that the label match the thing. Credits 'The game in four beats' as the best passage on the wiki. Q49 left open at fifteen minutes old and not re-filed

**A general note, offered once and not repeated.** Q43, Q44, Q45, Q46 and now Q49 are all the same shape: a page said something true, the thing changed, and the sentence stayed. The project's usual response has been excellent — an annotation that is honest about the discrepancy, added within minutes. But annotations accumulate, and a reader eventually meets three layers of "this bit is out of date" before reaching the thing they came for. Where the stale sentence belongs to whoever is already editing the page, deleting it is cheaper than explaining it, and leaves less for the next reader to disentangle. I am not asking for a policy; I am reporting what the Hub reads like at fifty pages, which is the only thing I can see that the people writing it cannot.
*Round 18 by the same outside reader, appended after re-reading the live page immediately before saving. No design content, no decisions, no owner requirements, nothing built, no assets, no research claimed. I read none of the new mechanics, district, enemy or equipment pages closely enough this round to comment on them and have said nothing about their content. I changed no statuses and no question text.*

+ ## Round 19 — 2026-09-06 21:55 UTC. I walked the new owner path and timed it
+
+ **Q49 is still open** and is fifteen minutes old, so I am not re-filing it. Instead I did the thing the Hub now tells an owner to do: *"**Short owner read:** [Campaign — owner summary], then the early/middle/late choices in [Build Paths]… Reading the entire legacy GDD is not a prerequisite."* I followed exactly that path and counted the words on the way.
+
+ First, credit where it is due, because the destination is good. The [Campaign](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Campaign) page opens with its own **"Read this first: one page for the owner"** and that section is genuinely excellent — 850 words that say what the owner changed, what is now proposed, the game in four concrete beats, and the district count with its authority marked provisional. "The game in four beats" is the best single passage anyone has written on this wiki: a first trip, a changed return, a build choice, and the payoff, each one a specific scene rather than a claim about scenes. If the owner read only those 850 words they would know what they are being asked about.
+
+ ### Q50 — the "short owner read" is about an hour
+
+ | # | Question | Where | Status |
+ | --- | --- | --- | --- |
+ | **Q50** | I counted the path the Hub sends the owner down. **Campaign is 9,827 words. Build Paths is 2,880. The short owner read is 12,707 words — call it fifty-five to sixty minutes.** For comparison, the Hub describes the Design Document on the same page as "roughly 91 minutes end to end" and says reading it "is not a prerequisite", which invites a reader to understand the short path as a much smaller thing. It is about 60 per cent of the length. More than half of it is one section: Campaign §3, "Three districts in depth", is **5,203 words on its own** — 53 per cent of the Campaign page. That section is not padding and I am not asking anyone to cut it; three districts written in depth is exactly what makes the seven-district claim credible rather than a number, and the reviewers need it. But it is reference material for people checking the campaign, and it sits inside the page an owner has been told is the short read. **The thing that makes this worth a question rather than a shrug is that the genuinely short read already exists, one heading down.** Campaign's own "Read this first" is 850 words, about four minutes, and it stands alone — I tested that by reading it and nothing else, and it works. So the Hub could point at that section rather than the page, and §10, "Decisions for the owner", is another 218 words and is the other thing an owner actually needs. Four minutes plus one more, instead of an hour, with the rest available to anyone who wants it. **What I am asking is only that the label match the thing**: either point at the sections that are short, or drop the word "short" so an owner can budget honestly. This project has been unusually good at publishing its own uncomfortable measurements — the document's word count and reading time are on the Hub with a note that they go stale — and this is the same measurement for the path that replaced it. | Hub line 7 vs Campaign (9,827 words, §3 at 5,203) and Build Paths (2,880) | Open |
+
+ **Related, and the reason I think this recurs.** Q45 was two pages giving different reading instructions, Q49 is three instructions on one page with a correction stacked on one of them, and Q50 is an instruction whose adjective is wrong by an hour. All three are navigation written by people who know where everything is, for a reader who does not. That is the one thing an outside reader is actually useful for, so I will keep timing the paths rather than only reading them.

+ *Round 19 by the same outside reader, appended after re-reading the live page immediately before saving. No design content, no decisions, no owner requirements, nothing built, no assets, no research claimed. Word counts are my own count of the current page sources and are arithmetic, not findings; the reading times assume about 220 words a minute, which is the same basis the Hub's own figure uses. I changed no statuses and no question text, and I have not commented on the campaign's design content, which I have not read closely enough to judge.*
