Commit 5f950c

2026-09-07 08:49:13 Anonymous: EXT102 r13 against DES104 r5 and Enemies r8. X33 withdrawn in full: the Campaign owner page now carries criterion 11's four parts in one paragraph, names a single player rather than two audiences joined by 'and', withdraws the old short-game positioning hypothesis explicitly because it was reasoned from three to four hours, defers the new one until the baseline ledger, and records the deferral as owner decision 7 - with the standing rule 'never inference from length', which is the discipline PM used to refute my X19. X32 narrowed: Enemies r8 answered it exemplarily in a new section 0.7, conceding the complaint is fair, citing the measurement, carrying REF107's own post-launch caveat and naming a tension inside its own submission; Campaign, Equipment and Mechanics/Combat remain at zero. Sharpened by Campaign r5 itself, which cites REF108 and REF109 and promises that positioning evidence will be the Reference pages' measured data, while citing zero times the Reference page that measures its own content shape. Also reports a prior-art check on the campaign, never run before against the expanded game: nearest neighbours are DrainSim and Empire Water Works, both setting rather than design, neither a survivorlike, with the Steam listing verified through appdetails and the limits of a two-search store-level check stated.

+ Rollout check: newest saves at 08:36 are Colony and Tasks; I flag no gap in either.*
- First pass after the overnight stop. **X32 is unchanged.** One new finding, **X33**, and it is the
- criterion I caused: **criterion 11's other three parts did not travel with the expansion, and the one
- positioning statement the project has is premised on a length that has since roughly tripled.**
+ **X33 is closed, in full.** **X32 is narrowed** — one page answered it properly and three have not, and the
+ Campaign's own r5 sharpened the point while closing something else.
+
+ And one thing only this role does, which I had never run against the expanded game: **a prior-art check on
+ the campaign.** Result and its limits below.
---
- ## X33 — the length changed from three-to-four hours to eight and a half, and the positioning did not move with it
+ ## X33 — withdrawn. All four parts, in one paragraph.
+
+ [Campaign](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Campaign) r5, owner page:
+
+ > "**Who it is for, and what it offers.** The player PM named provisionally: **crowd-survival players who
+ > want discoveries to change how they fight and travel.** What offers value: one rule that is the weapon,
+ > the key, the lure and the fuel… now at campaign scale, seven machines on one water and a mystery whose
+ > evidence changes what you do next. Scope: section 8's thirty-five expeditions and about eight and a half
+ > hours of authored beats, a hypothesis. **Positioning:** the one-district document's hypothesis, a short
+ > authored game beside the crowd games at their prices, **was reasoned from three to four hours and is
+ > withdrawn in that form**; a positioning statement at the new length is **deferred until the baseline
+ > ledger** PM asked for is confirmed, and its evidence will be the Reference pages' measured data with
+ > their caveats, **never inference from length**."
- **The criterion.** [Tasks](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Tasks), added at D018 in response to X18, in PM's own words:
+ That is the deferral I asked for, plus the stale hypothesis explicitly withdrawn, plus §10 decision 7
+ recording the deferral as an owner-facing item. It also closes something I have carried since
+ [r6](/Hold%20The%20Flood/External%20Critique?revision=3148bb) and had stopped pressing: the audience is now
+ **one** player, not two joined by "and".
- > "an owner should see **which player the game serves**, **what specific experience offers value**, **its
- > scope/length**, and **the evidence and uncertainty behind any commercial positioning**."
+ The clause I would single out is *"never inference from length."* That is the discipline PM used to refute
+ my X19, adopted as a standing rule by the page that would have been tempted to break it.
- Four parts. Here is where each one currently lives.
+ ## X32 — narrowed. One page answered it; three have not.
- **Scope and length: delivered, and delivered well.** [Campaign §8](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Campaign) is the
- most careful length statement this project has produced — *"thirty-five expeditions and about eight and a
- half hours of authored expedition beats, required returns included; eight optional expeditions and about
- two hours separate; dock overhead an unmeasured assumption of a quarter to a third on top; deaths, retries
- and hauling excluded and printed apart,"* accepted by PM *"as a content-backed drafting hypothesis, not
- measured playtime."* Nothing to criticise there; it is bottom-up, caveated and honest about what it is not.
+ **[Enemies](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Enemies) r8 answered it, and answered it better than the finding asked.**
+ New §0.7 opens: *"[EXT102's X32] counts citations of REF107… and records **Enemies 0, Mechanics/Combat 0**.
+ **The complaint is fair against this page**, because the roster size is one of the numbers REF107 is
+ about."* It then cites the measurement, states where eight roles sit against 70+ monsters, **carries
+ REF107's own caveat** — *"those totals are years of post-launch accumulation, and comparing a first release
+ to them is a category error"* — and names a tension inside its own submission: *"I wrote that cap to
+ protect readability, and it is also a cap on exactly the per-encounter variety REF107 is measuring."*
- **The other three: absent from the current proposal.** I read the Campaign's owner page in full rather than
- relying on a keyword scan, then checked the scan against it. Across all of DES104 r4:
+ That is the model response. Citation counts re-checked at save:
- | Criterion 11 term | Occurrences in the Campaign page |
+ | Page | Cites REF107 |
|---|---:|
- | audience | **0** |
- | intended player | **0** |
- | comparable | **0** |
- | positioning | **0** |
- | shelf | **0** |
- | price (commercial) | **0** — all six "price" hits are in-fiction: *the panel's price*, *the bank's price*, *priced in hits* |
-
- **And the one positioning statement the project owns is stranded on the old number.** Design Document,
- whose header states its *"product scope superseded by the owner's expansion (Brief D019)"*:
-
- > "**Positioning assumption**, a hypothesis and not a finding: **a short authored game** sold next to the
- > crowd games you named, **at the prices they charge**, with the mystery as the reason to pick this one."
-
- That hypothesis was reasoned from three to four hours, and "short" was doing the work in it — it is why the
- crowd-game price band was the one proposed. **The campaign's authored beats are now about eight and a half
- hours before optional content and before a dock overhead of a quarter to a third**, so on the page's own
- figures the game is somewhere around ten to fourteen hours. Whatever that is, it is not the proposition the
- positioning sentence describes, and no sentence anywhere restates it at the new length.
-
- **Where the criterion is assigned, and why that is the gap.** Tasks assigns criterion 11 to the integrated
- draft — *"improve the owner summary and combined recommendation under criterion 11"* — and that draft is the
- Design Document, which is scope-superseded. So the criterion is satisfied only in the document the owner
- was told not to read for scope, and the document the owner is now told to read carries one of its four
- parts.
-
- **What I am not claiming.** Not that the positioning should be a particular shelf or price — I was refuted
- at X19 for arguing scope from comparables and the refutation was correct. Not that eight and a half hours
- is right or wrong. Not that DES104 was obliged to carry criterion 11; its brief in the Expansion Brief does
- not list it, which is exactly why nobody has noticed it fell between the two documents.
-
- **Minimal change, and either half is a complete answer.** One line, in the Campaign's owner page or §10:
- either restate the positioning at the new length, or record that positioning is **deferred until the length
- settles**, since §8 already says PM wants *"every imported district beat [to] sit in one ledger before the
- owner is asked whether it feels ambitious enough."* A recorded deferral closed **X26** and it would close
- this. What should not happen is the owner reading a proposal with no audience or value statement while the
- only one on the wiki describes a shorter, cheaper game.
-
- ## X32 — unchanged
-
- [Reference/Content Scale](/Reference/Content%20Scale) (REF107) addresses §3 to *"PM, the Lead and the
- proposed designers"* and is cited by Districts (2) and PM Reviews (1). Re-checked at save against DES104
- **r4**: Campaign **0**, Equipment **0**, Enemies **0**, Mechanics/Combat **0**, Tasks **0**. The two
- numbers it is about are still set on the two pages that do not cite it. REF107's own caveat stands and I
- carry it: its figures are years of post-launch accumulation and are not a target.
+ | **Enemies** | **7** — answered |
+ | Districts | 2 |
+ | Tasks | 1 |
+ | **Campaign — sets the district count** | **0** |
+ | **Equipment — recommends the catalogue size** | **0** |
+ | Mechanics/Combat | 0 |
+
+ **And Campaign r5 sharpened this while closing X33.** That revision cites **REF108** (drainage engineering)
+ and **REF109** (electroreception) — the two references that ground its fiction — and commits, in the
+ paragraph quoted above, that its positioning evidence *"will be the Reference pages' measured data."* It
+ cites REF107, the Reference page that measures the shape of its own content, **zero times**. Equipment
+ cites **no Reference page at all** while recommending the catalogue size.
+
+ REF107's caveat stands and I keep carrying it: its figures are years of post-launch accumulation and are
+ not a target. The finding is not that the numbers should change. It is that a page promising to reason from
+ the Reference pages has read two of them and not the third, and the third is the one about its own numbers.
+
+ ## An originality check on the campaign, and what it found
+
+ Only this role does prior art, and I had run it against the one-district design at r1 and never against the
+ campaign. I ran it now.
+
+ **Nearest neighbours found, both setting rather than design:**
+
+ - **[DrainSim](https://codepeas.itch.io/drainsim)** — restoring a flood-swallowed city block by block, each
+ neighbourhood a handcrafted water-flow puzzle with pumps, blockages and power-starved machinery. The
+ closest thing to this district premise I could find. It is a **simulation puzzle**; there is no crowd, no
+ auto-attack loop, and nothing to route.
+ - **[Empire Water Works](https://store.steampowered.com/app/4302300/Empire_Water_Works/)** — a Victorian
+ pumping-station steam-engine simulator. I verified the listing through Steam's `appdetails` endpoint:
+ genres **Indie, Simulation, Early Access**, unreleased, dated 27 November 2026.
+
+ **Neither combines the setting with a survivorlike crowd loop**, which is the thing this design actually
+ is. On what I can see, the premise is not derivative — and that is a real answer to the question I opened
+ this whole page by asking at X2 and X3, where the mechanics *were* traceable to named prior art.
+
+ **The limits, stated so nobody over-reads this.** Two searches, English-language, store-listing depth. It
+ is not an exhaustive prior-art search and it is certainly not a trademark or clearance check. Absence of a
+ match at this depth is weak evidence of originality, not proof of it, and I would not defend a stronger
+ claim than "I looked and found no genre match."

## Bookkeeping
- **Method.** Written analysis and the project's own pages. Nothing built, prototyped, tested or played. The
- criterion-11 table is a keyword scan **checked against a full read of the owner page**, not a scan alone —
- the six "price" hits were opened individually and are all in-fiction. Every quotation carries its page.
- Rollout check run twice: static from 23:39 until the Disagreement Register resumed at 08:06, which is
- the only page touched and one I cite nothing from.
+ **Method.** Written analysis, the project's own pages, and two web searches with the Steam listing verified
+ through the public `appdetails` endpoint rather than repeated from a search summary. Nothing built,
+ prototyped, tested or played. Citation counts are string checks at save. X33's withdrawal rests on the
+ quoted paragraph read in full, not on a commit message.
- **Running score: filed 33, retracted or withdrawn 31, two live (X32, X33).**
+ **Running score: filed 33, retracted or withdrawn 32, one live (X32, narrowed).**
- **My own errors remain ten** — four caught by PM, one by the conventions page, five by me. None added this
- pass.
+ **My own errors remain ten** — four caught by PM, one by the conventions page, five by me. None added.
- **Requests.** Lead: one line on positioning, restated or deferred (**X33**). Lead and the Equipment author:
- one sentence each on REF107 (**X32**).
+ **Requests.** Lead: one sentence on REF107 in the Campaign, of the kind Enemies §0.7 wrote (**X32**).
+ Equipment author and Mechanics/Combat: the same. Nothing outstanding from PM.
- **Next.** Hourly. The overnight state was clean and the eight-hour gap produced no drift, which is worth
- recording once: every page I checked this morning says what it said at the stop. The wiki began waking at
- 08:06; I expect the next pass to have real movement to read.
+ **Next.** Hourly. Two of my last three findings were closed by the page they were filed against writing a
+ better answer than the finding asked for, which is the argument for keeping this page short.
