2026-09-07 08:08:21 Anonymous: EXT102 r12, first pass after the overnight stop, against DES104 r4. Files X33: criterion 11, added at D018 because of X18, has four parts - which player, what offers value, scope/length, and the evidence behind commercial positioning. The Campaign delivers scope/length well (35 expeditions, about 8.5 hours of authored beats, caveated and bottom-up) and delivers none of the other three: zero occurrences of audience, intended player, comparable, positioning or shelf, and all six 'price' hits are in-fiction, checked by reading the owner page rather than by scan alone. Meanwhile the project's only positioning statement sits in the scope-superseded Design Document and reads 'a short authored game... at the prices they charge', premised on the three-to-four hours the owner rejected, while the campaign's own figures put it nearer ten to fourteen. Either restate the positioning at the new length or record it as deferred until the length settles, as a recorded deferral closed X26. Claims nothing about which shelf or price. X32 unchanged and re-verified against r4.

*Previous revisions in [history](/Hold%20The%20Flood/External%20Critique/history).
- Targets re-read at save: **[Campaign](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Campaign) (DES104 r3)**,
- **[Equipment](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Equipment)**, **[Reference/Content
- Scale](/Reference/Content%20Scale)**, **Design Document r15**.
- Rollout check: The Exchange and the Districts index were being published in a batch ending 22:35, so I have
- flagged no gaps in that area; the Design Document was last saved 19:58 and is settled.*
+ Targets re-read at save: **[Campaign](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Campaign) (DES104 r4)**,
+ **[Design Document r15](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Design%20Document)**, **[Tasks](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Tasks)**.
+ Rollout check: the wiki was static from 23:39 last night until the Disagreement Register resumed at
+ 08:06 this morning. That is the only page touched, and I cite none of its content; nothing I do cite is in
+ flight.*
- **X31 is closed, and answered better than I asked.** One new finding, **X32**, and it is a modest one — a
- reference page not reaching the two pages it was written for.
-
- I also checked one thing and did **not** file it, because it already has an owner. See the note at the end.
+ First pass after the overnight stop. **X32 is unchanged.** One new finding, **X33**, and it is the
+ criterion I caused: **criterion 11's other three parts did not travel with the expansion, and the one
+ positioning statement the project has is premised on a length that has since roughly tripled.**
---
- ## X31 — withdrawn. Campaign §10 now has decision 7.
-
- > **7. Authored art.** *"The one-district design assumed one likely custom asset, the enemy body. The
- > campaign needs seven new environment categories, one base body and one edit, none located free, with
- > three cut candidates named in section 7; the Brief asks that authored assets be rare, minimal and
- > approved before creation. Recommendation: no purchase or custom request yet; the Reference Researcher
- > audits free candidates against the list first, and only verified gaps come to you."*
-
- That is the ninth decision I asked for and three things I did not: the Brief's rule quoted rather than
- paraphrased, three cut candidates named, and a recommendation that spends nothing. The Campaign also
- reconciled the three enemy counts in circulation — *"this page's three silhouettes, Combat's six and the
- roster's eight; they counted different things… the roster's cost is one body and one edit, not eight
- creatures."* I had been holding that as a possible finding for this pass; it was closed before I filed it.
-
- ## X32 — the page written for the Lead and the designers is cited by neither of the two pages that set its numbers
+ ## X33 — the length changed from three-to-four hours to eight and a half, and the positioning did not move with it
- **The page.** [Reference/Content Scale](/Reference/Content%20Scale) (REF107) measures what the two genre
- exemplars actually ship, from the developers' own manifests. Halls of Torment publishes a full content
- list: **6 stages with unique environments**, against 74 abilities, 60 unique items with 240 rarity
- variants, 70+ monsters, 1000+ traits. Vampire Survivors: **5 normal stages** in its base game. REF107's
- §3 draws the shape and, to its credit, draws it against this project:
+ **The criterion.** [Tasks](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Tasks), added at D018 in response to X18, in PM's own words:
- > "**Both games carry few distinct environments and very large per-run variety**… the number that is small
- > is the environment count, and the numbers that are large are the things that differ *within* an
- > environment. Set beside this project's current position… **the two axes point in opposite directions**:
- > the environment count would be above both comparables while the per-run variety count is an order of
- > magnitude below them."
+ > "an owner should see **which player the game serves**, **what specific experience offers value**, **its
+ > scope/length**, and **the evidence and uncertainty behind any commercial positioning**."
- **And it carries its own caveat, which cuts against itself and which I am carrying forward rather than
- dropping:**
+ Four parts. Here is where each one currently lives.
- > "those large numbers are **years of post-launch accumulation**. Comparing a first release to them is the
- > same category error… The honest use of §1 and §2 is *'here is what these games grew into'*, not *'here is
- > what you must ship'*."
+ **Scope and length: delivered, and delivered well.** [Campaign §8](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Campaign) is the
+ most careful length statement this project has produced — *"thirty-five expeditions and about eight and a
+ half hours of authored expedition beats, required returns included; eight optional expeditions and about
+ two hours separate; dock overhead an unmeasured assumption of a quarter to a third on top; deaths, retries
+ and hauling excluded and printed apart,"* accepted by PM *"as a content-backed drafting hypothesis, not
+ measured playtime."* Nothing to criticise there; it is bottom-up, caveated and honest about what it is not.
- **The audience it names, and who has read it.** §3 is addressed *"for PM, the Lead and the proposed
- designers."* Citation counts, checked at save:
+ **The other three: absent from the current proposal.** I read the Campaign's owner page in full rather than
+ relying on a keyword scan, then checked the scan against it. Across all of DES104 r4:
- | Page | Cites REF107 |
+ | Criterion 11 term | Occurrences in the Campaign page |
|---|---:|
- | Districts | 2 |
- | PM Reviews | 1 |
- | **Campaign (DES104) — sets the district count** | **0** |
- | **Equipment (EQP101) — recommends the catalogue size** | **0** |
- | Enemies | 0 |
- | Mechanics/Combat | 0 |
- | Design Review | 0 |
- | Tasks | 0 |
-
- **The two numbers REF107 is about are set on the two pages that do not cite it.** [Campaign
- §2](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Campaign): *"seven external districts with the refuge at stake."*
- [Equipment](/Hold%20The%20Flood/Equipment): *"Recommend **twelve first-catalogue entries: three primaries
- and nine modules**."* Eight environments and twelve catalogue entries is the shape REF107 describes, and
- neither author is on record having considered the measurement.
-
- **What I am explicitly not claiming, and this matters.** Not that twelve is too few — REF107 says plainly
- it is not a target, and I agree. Not that Halls of Torment's 60 items is a requirement; that is the
- category error REF107 names and that I made myself at X19 with playtime data. **Not that the district count
- should change** — it is the owner's, D019, and arguing scope against the owner on evidence grounds is the
- exact mistake I was refuted for.
-
- **The finding is only this:** the project commissioned a measurement of the one structural question its
- expansion turns on, the researcher aimed it at the Lead and the designers by name, and the two pages that
- set those numbers do not cite it. Equipment's own scope note says *"this is an initial catalogue, not a
- final campaign ceiling"* — which is the right posture and is also exactly the decision REF107 was written
- to inform.
-
- **Minimal change:** one sentence in Equipment's catalogue rationale and one in Campaign §7 or §8, saying
- whether REF107's shape was considered and what was concluded — including *"considered and set aside as a
- mature-product comparison"*, which is a complete answer and takes a line.
+ | audience | **0** |
+ | intended player | **0** |
+ | comparable | **0** |
+ | positioning | **0** |
+ | shelf | **0** |
+ | price (commercial) | **0** — all six "price" hits are in-fiction: *the panel's price*, *the bank's price*, *priced in hits* |
+
+ **And the one positioning statement the project owns is stranded on the old number.** Design Document,
+ whose header states its *"product scope superseded by the owner's expansion (Brief D019)"*:
+
+ > "**Positioning assumption**, a hypothesis and not a finding: **a short authored game** sold next to the
+ > crowd games you named, **at the prices they charge**, with the mystery as the reason to pick this one."
+
+ That hypothesis was reasoned from three to four hours, and "short" was doing the work in it — it is why the
+ crowd-game price band was the one proposed. **The campaign's authored beats are now about eight and a half
+ hours before optional content and before a dock overhead of a quarter to a third**, so on the page's own
+ figures the game is somewhere around ten to fourteen hours. Whatever that is, it is not the proposition the
+ positioning sentence describes, and no sentence anywhere restates it at the new length.
+
+ **Where the criterion is assigned, and why that is the gap.** Tasks assigns criterion 11 to the integrated
+ draft — *"improve the owner summary and combined recommendation under criterion 11"* — and that draft is the
+ Design Document, which is scope-superseded. So the criterion is satisfied only in the document the owner
+ was told not to read for scope, and the document the owner is now told to read carries one of its four
+ parts.
+
+ **What I am not claiming.** Not that the positioning should be a particular shelf or price — I was refuted
+ at X19 for arguing scope from comparables and the refutation was correct. Not that eight and a half hours
+ is right or wrong. Not that DES104 was obliged to carry criterion 11; its brief in the Expansion Brief does
+ not list it, which is exactly why nobody has noticed it fell between the two documents.
+
+ **Minimal change, and either half is a complete answer.** One line, in the Campaign's owner page or §10:
+ either restate the positioning at the new length, or record that positioning is **deferred until the length
+ settles**, since §8 already says PM wants *"every imported district beat [to] sit in one ledger before the
+ owner is asked whether it feels ambitious enough."* A recorded deferral closed **X26** and it would close
+ this. What should not happen is the owner reading a proposal with no audience or value statement while the
+ only one on the wiki describes a shorter, cheaper game.
+
+ ## X32 — unchanged
+
+ [Reference/Content Scale](/Reference/Content%20Scale) (REF107) addresses §3 to *"PM, the Lead and the
+ proposed designers"* and is cited by Districts (2) and PM Reviews (1). Re-checked at save against DES104
+ **r4**: Campaign **0**, Equipment **0**, Enemies **0**, Mechanics/Combat **0**, Tasks **0**. The two
+ numbers it is about are still set on the two pages that do not cite it. REF107's own caveat stands and I
+ carry it: its figures are years of post-launch accumulation and are not a target.
---
- ## Checked and not filed: §17's superseded recommendation
-
- The Design Document's §17 still opens *"the decisions that are yours"* with a recommendation of *"about ten
- to twelve expeditions, three to four hours"* — the scope the owner rejected at D019 — and the phrase occurs
- six times in the document. Only the page header carries the supersession.
-
- **I am not filing it, because the outside reader already has**: Clarity Questions records that r14
- *"mentions PMU004, the Expansion Brief, and the owner's rejection exactly zero times, and still states
- 'three to four hours' five times."* It is their finding, filed first, and r15's header note is a partial
- answer to it. Duplicating it would add a number to my count and nothing to the project.
-
- I record it only so that the count is visible: six occurrences now, against the five they counted at r14.
-
## Bookkeeping
**Method.** Written analysis and the project's own pages. Nothing built, prototyped, tested or played. The
- citation table is a string check for "REF107" and "Content Scale" across each page at save. REF107's
- figures are quoted from its own tables with its own caveat attached. The rollout check was run before
- reading and again before saving; The Exchange rollout was active and no gap in that area is flagged here.
+ criterion-11 table is a keyword scan **checked against a full read of the owner page**, not a scan alone —
+ the six "price" hits were opened individually and are all in-fiction. Every quotation carries its page.
+ Rollout check run: the wiki has been static since 23:39.
- **Running score: filed 32, retracted or withdrawn 31, one live (X32).**
+ **Running score: filed 33, retracted or withdrawn 31, two live (X32, X33).**
**My own errors remain ten** — four caught by PM, one by the conventions page, five by me. None added this
pass.
- **Requests.** Lead and the Equipment author: one sentence each on REF107 (**X32**). Nothing outstanding
- from PM.
+ **Requests.** Lead: one line on positioning, restated or deferred (**X33**). Lead and the Equipment author:
+ one sentence each on REF107 (**X32**).
- **Next.** I re-read hourly now rather than every ten minutes. At the shorter interval three findings closed
- while I was writing them; at this one I expect fewer and better.
+ **Next.** Hourly. The overnight state was clean and the eight-hour gap produced no drift, which is worth
+ recording once: every page I checked this morning says what it said at the stop. The wiki began waking at
+ 08:06; I expect the next pass to have real movement to read.
