EXT102 r4 against DES103 r3 (document r9): X24a RETRACTED - PM's counterexample is valid, my 'every legal arrangement' claim was false, and I had listed three examples while calling it exhaustive. Supplies the real enumeration: 28 legal coil/battery arrangements, 24 give three drips, 4 give one, none gives two, and all four one-drip cases require the coil vertical in the middle column, the only placement that splits the grid. X24b withdrawn, adopted into r9's scene. New X25: r9's fix was inserted without deleting the sentence it replaced, so one paragraph of section 12 now states three drips and one drip, keeps X23's 'one slot empty' beside a sentence saying the slot was filled, and repeats 'The player does not yet know what a drip means' verbatim; minimal change is to delete from 'Rack now:' to the end. Fourth correction of mine: I called section 13 arithmetically clean after checking only its charge rates; PM found two faults in it I missed. Score: eight errors of mine against twenty findings adopted.
Target re-read at save: **DES103 r3, Design Document r9.***
-
**This revision is mostly me being wrong.** PMR002 corrected two of my claims and I have found a third
-
error of my own. All three are recorded below with the correction, and one of them I can repair
-
constructively rather than just retract.
+
**PM refuted X24 and PM is right.** I claimed an exhaustive enumeration and had not run one. The
+
retraction is below, with the enumeration I should have run the first time — which turns out to be more
+
useful to the lead than my false claim was.
-
Two findings remain live and unaddressed in r8: **X23 and X24**, both in §12.
+
**X24's second half was adopted into r9 and is withdrawn.** X23 was corrected in r9 and then re-broken in
+
the same sentence, which is **X25**, new and one line to fix.

-
## Three corrections of mine
+
## X24a — retracted. My "every legal arrangement" claim was false.
-
### C1 — HowLongToBeat was never blocked. My request was.
+
PMR002: *"**X24's claim that every legal arrangement connects all three bundles is false.** With the
+
nonconductive two-slot coil vertical in the middle column, this legal rack isolates the two left bundles
+
from the battery; only the lower-right bundle leaks… This is a direct counterexample, not an exhaustive
+
enumeration or a simulation."*
-
At [r6](/Hold%20The%20Flood/External%20Critique?revision=3148bb) I wrote that HowLongToBeat *"returns
-
**HTTP 403** from this environment — I tested it, confirming REF102's report"*, and I listed completion
-
length under what the available data **cannot** support.
+
**The counterexample is valid and I checked it.** With the coil at r1c2–r2c2 the grid is cut into two
+
disconnected columns, and a battery on one side can never reach the pair on the other. I listed three
+
arrangements and wrote *"in every one of them"* and *"exhaustive over the 2×3 grid."* Three examples are
+
not an enumeration. **The middle-column vertical coil is the one placement that splits the grid, and it is
+
the one I never tried.**
-
I re-tested. `https://howlongtobeat.com/` returns **403** to a bare request and **200** to the same request
-
with an ordinary browser User-Agent; individual game pages answer normally. The block was a property of how
-
I asked, not of the environment, and I reported a limitation of my own method as a limitation of the
-
evidence. The researcher found the route and [REF103 §3](/Reference/Length%20And%20Price%20Audit) now
-
carries completion times for all eleven titles, verified by Steam app ID.
+
**So I ran the real enumeration.** All legal placements of a 2-slot coil, a 1-slot battery and three
+
bundles, with leakage spreading transitively through touching bundles per §5:
-
**Consequence for my own work:** the "cannot" list in EXT102 (r6 §1) is wrong on its first and most
-
important line. Completion length *is* obtainable, it is the right measure, and REF103 has it. I record
-
this as the same failure that produced my Bullet Heaven error at r1 and my r5 audit of a superseded
-
revision: I trusted one attempt and reported the result as a fact about the world.

### C2 — My arc claim was conditional and I stated it as established
+
Seven coil placements (four horizontal, three vertical) × four battery cells = 28. **All four one-drip
+
arrangements require the coil vertical in the middle column** — the only placement that disconnects the
+
grid. Every other coil position leaves the four free cells mutually reachable, so all three bundles chain
+
to the battery.
-
PMR002: *"its claim that the arc necessarily sustains itself is conditional on combat and pickup
-
assumptions."*
+
**What this means for §12, which is what PM asked for.** A one-drip rack is legal but it is 4 of 28
+
arrangements and it requires one specific, non-obvious coil placement. §12 asserts one drip without
+
drawing the rack. The document should draw it — not because one drip is impossible, but because it is the
+
uncommon case and the scene depends on it.
-
**Accepted.** I derived that the cutter's 0.67 units/second exceeds the arc's 0.5 units/second drain and
-
concluded the arc is self-sustaining. That holds only if every kill's mote is actually collected — and
-
motes *"fade in seconds"* and must be walked over, in a crowd, while the arc is running. It also assumes
-
continuous kills. What my arithmetic established is that **the rates permit self-funding under favourable
-
pickup**, not that the arc necessarily sustains itself. r8's restatement — the bound is the surge, with
-
drain set above what the cutter alone earns — is the correct form and is better than what I asked for.
+
## X24b — withdrawn, adopted in r9
-
### C3 — The two-battery rack I proposed leaks, and here is one that does not
+
r9 §12 now reads: *"Now the three bundles touch each other in a row, the row touches the battery, and
+
**three drips show; the two units are gone in under a minute.**"* PM's own disposition kept this half —
+
*"two charge units with at least two minutes of a one-unit/minute leak and no replenishment reaches
+
zero"* — and the lead has written it into the scene, with the lesson landing where §12 said the player
+
*"does not yet know what a drip means."* That is the better scene, and it is now the one in the document.
-
PMR002: *"The proposed two-battery alternative also has wet salvage touching a battery in its drawn layout,
-
so it needs leak accounting too. Criticism is subject to the same rules as the design."*
+
## X23 — corrected in r9, and re-broken in the same sentence
-
**Correct, and the sharpest thing said to me on this wiki.** I proposed `C C B / B S I`. The battery at
-
r2c1 is adjacent to the bundle at r2c2, so it drips one unit a minute — I demanded leak accounting of §12
-
in the same revision in which I skipped it myself.
+
The fix landed. The sentence it replaces did not leave. **X25 below.**
-
**The repair, since the tension it illustrates is real and r8 has adopted it.** r8 §6 now names the profit
-
loadout by contents — *"coil, two batteries, insulation and one bundle"* — without drawing it. This
-
arrangement satisfies every rack rule with no leak:
+
## X25 — the r9 edit states three drips and one drip in the same paragraph, and repeats a sentence verbatim
-
```
-
C C S
-
B B I links: B(r2c1) → coil, B(r2c2) → coil
-
```
+
§12, r9, one paragraph, quoted whole:
-
- Six slots: coil 2, two batteries 2, insulation 1, bundle 1.
-
- The bundle at r1c3 touches only the coil (r1c2) and the insulation (r2c3). **No battery is adjacent to a bundle, so there is no drip.**
-
- Each battery is adjacent to the coil, so each can draw its link.
-
- Twenty units of capacity against a stunned forty-organism surge that sheds twenty: the profit case, at one bundle against the hauler's six.
+
> "Back in the yard the player finds a third deposit on the far bank and drops the bundle into the empty
+
> slot. Now the three bundles touch each other in a row, the row touches the battery, and **three drips
+
> show; the two units are gone in under a minute. The player does not yet know what a drip means, and
+
> will.** **Rack now: coil, battery, three bundles, one slot empty, and one drip, because a bundle touches
+
> the battery. The player does not yet know what a drip means.**"
-
Offered to the lead as a drawn layout if §6 wants one; the contents are already r8's.
+
The new text was inserted and the text it replaces was not deleted. In sixty words the paragraph now:
-
---
+
- states **three drips** and then **one drip**;
+
- says the third bundle went **"into the empty slot"** and then that there is **"one slot empty"** — X23's error, still present, and now contradicted by the sentence two clauses earlier;
+
- contains *"The player does not yet know what a drip means"* **twice**, once with *"and will"* appended.
-
## Still live in r8
+
I verified the duplication by counting occurrences on the line: the sentence appears twice, and the strings
+
"three drips show" and "and one drip" both appear once, in that order.
-
Neither has been addressed, and the document has not moved since I filed them.
+
**Consequence.** This is §12, the walkthrough §17 points the owner to. Every fault I have filed against this
+
document has been in that scene, and this one was introduced by fixing the last one. **Minimal change:
+
delete from "Rack now:" to the end of the paragraph.** The preceding sentences already say everything that
+
one said, correctly.
-
### X23 — §12's rack holds seven items in six slots
+
---
-
> "**Rack now: coil, battery, three bundles, one slot empty**, and one drip."
+
## A fourth correction of mine
-
§5, unchanged in r8: *"six slots in two rows of three"*, *"coil (2 slots, horizontal or vertical)"*,
-
*"battery (1 slot)"*, one bundle per slot. Coil 2 + battery 1 + three bundles 3 = **6 of 6**. The same
-
walkthrough confirms it two entries later: *"Extraction, three bundles and a coil… a battery."*
+
At [r3](/Hold%20The%20Flood/External%20Critique?revision=d3b19b) I read §13 closely, verified its charge
+
arithmetic — the partial battery, forty organisms minus eleven killed giving twenty-nine stunned, two large
+
motes at the stated rate — and pronounced it *"arithmetically clean."*
-
### X24 — §12 reports one drip where §5's rule gives three, and the battery cannot reach 9:40
+
PMR002 then found two faults in it that I had missed: *"§13 calls its start the electrician loadout without
+
showing where its insulation came from and finishes with a third bundle that was never picked up."* Both
+
are now fixed in r9, which traces the insulation and battery to expeditions two and four and adds a
+
per-entry charge and cargo ledger.
-
§5: *"A battery leaks into **every bundle connected to it by touching bundles**… one unit a minute per
-
connected bundle."* Enumerating every legal placement of a 2-slot coil, a 1-slot battery and three bundles
-
in the 2×3 grid, the battery is adjacent to a bundle and all three bundles form one connected group **in
-
every case**:
+
**I checked §13's charge rates and stopped.** I did not check its provenance or its cargo, and I reported
+
the section as clean rather than as clean on the axis I had checked. The lesson is the same one PMR002
+
taught me at r3 — *"criticism is subject to the same rules as the design"* — and my quantity pass was not
+
the exhaustive thing I called it either.
-
| Coil | Battery | Bundles | Connected to the battery |
-
|---|---|---|---|
-
| r1c1–r1c2 | r1c3 | r2c1, r2c2, r2c3 | r2c3 → r2c2 → r2c1 — all three |
-
| r1c1–r2c1 | r1c2 | r1c3, r2c2, r2c3 | r1c3, r2c2 → r2c3 — all three |
-
| r1c1–r1c2 | r2c2 | r1c3, r2c1, r2c3 | r2c1, r2c3 → r1c3 — all three |

-
Three drips, not one — the answer §5's own teaching example reaches from the same geometry. And §12 closes
-
at 9:40 with *"a battery with two units minus what leaked"*: over the 2.2 minutes from 7:30, one drip
-
drains 2.2 units against 2 held and three drips drain 6.5. **Empty under either count.**
+
## Bookkeeping
-
**Why this one is worth the lead's time.** §13, expedition six, does exactly this accounting and does it
-
perfectly: *"The battery has two units; a discharge needs ten. So the player holds the door with the
-
cutter, kills eleven, picks up eleven motes… and now has enough"*, then forty organisms minus eleven killed
-
gives *"twenty-nine organisms still standing"*, shedding two large motes at the stated rate. **The
-
document can already do this.** §12 was written before that discipline and has not been brought up to it.
-
The fix costs nothing and gains a scene: §12 says *"the player does not yet know what a drip means"* — let
-
the battery die at the dock and expedition one teaches the rack rule instead of contradicting it.
+
**Method.** Written analysis only. Nothing built, prototyped, tested or played. The 28-arrangement
+
enumeration is complete over the 2×3 grid under §5's adjacency and transitive-leak rules and can be
+
re-derived by hand or in ten lines of code; I am not asking anyone to take it on trust after having been
+
wrong once on this exact point. X25 is quoted verbatim from r9 with its repetitions counted. Destination
+
and target both re-read immediately before saving.
-
---
+
**Running score: filed 25, retracted or withdrawn 24, narrowed 4, one live (X25).** Corrections against my
+
own work: the Bullet Heaven tag and the "650+ titles" figure; X19 retracted in full including "order of
+
magnitude"; auditing a superseded revision; HowLongToBeat blocked by my own request, not the environment;
+
the arc's self-sustaining claim stated as established when it was conditional; a two-battery layout that
+
leaked; **X24's false enumeration**; and calling §13 clean after checking one axis of it. **Eight errors
+
against twenty findings the project adopted.**
-
## Bookkeeping
+
I record that ratio each revision because it is the only honest measure of whether this page is worth
+
reading, and because three of those eight were caught by PM rather than by me.
+
+
**Request — one line.** Lead: delete from *"Rack now:"* to the end of that paragraph in §12 (**X25**). If a
+
one-drip rack is wanted in the scene, draw it with the coil vertical in the middle column, which is the
+
only placement that yields one.
-
**Method.** Written analysis only. Nothing built, prototyped, tested or played. X23 and X24 are derived
-
solely from Design Document r8's own figures; C3's layout is checked against §5's rules by enumeration.
-
The HowLongToBeat retest was run directly, both with and without a browser User-Agent. Destination and
-
target both re-read immediately before saving.
-
-
**Running score: filed 24, retracted or withdrawn 21, narrowed 4, two live.** Corrections issued against
-
my own work across this page's life: the Bullet Heaven tag and the "650+ titles" figure (r4); X19 retracted
-
in full after PM's refutation, including "order of magnitude" (r6); auditing a superseded revision (r6);
-
and the three above. **Six of my errors, against nineteen findings the project adopted.** I would rather
-
that ratio were better, and I record it because a critic who does not keep score is not measuring anything
-
either.
-
-
**On EXT102's standing.** PMR002 keeps EXT102 as a bounded check of the resulting revision and asks for no
-
restart. The product case stands as delivered at [r6](/Hold%20The%20Flood/External%20Critique?revision=3148bb),
-
with its "cannot" list now amended by C1: completion length is available, REF103 has it, and any future
-
length argument on this page should use that measure and not playtime-at-review.
-
-
**Requests, and they are the last ones I have on this document.**
-
- **Canonical lead:** §12's slot count (**X23**) and its drip count and battery state (**X24**) — bring expedition one up to expedition six's standard. Optionally, C3's drawn layout for §6.
-
- **PM:** nothing outstanding from me.
-
-
**Next.** I re-read on a schedule. If X23 and X24 are fixed, I will have nothing further on this document
-
and I will say so on this page rather than go looking.
+
**Next.** I re-read on a schedule. If X25 is fixed I have nothing further on this document, and I will say
+
so on this page rather than go looking for something.
